1. The single worst song in human history.
I'd rather be RickRoll'd for eternity than to listen to Katy Perry's song just one more time.

6. I don't know, I think Kid Rocks' "All Summer Long" might have knocked it out of contention.

13. Warren Zevon should come back from the dead and choke
the life out of Kid Rock for defiling one of his masterpieces like that...

2. Didnt she rip off that song from the 90's about a girl kissing another girl?

9. No... the other song had a certain sincerity to it...
Katy Perry's is about getting drunk and it meaning nothing. Perry wouldn't know sincerity if it slapped her with a wet fish.

10. Jill Sobule- I Kissed A Girl....
Which is a MUCH better song, IMHO.

As for Katy Perry's.... Meh- it's OK. It doesn't irritate me horribly, but neither do I seek it out. Hot N Cold is a better track, I think.

16. I've only heard Jill's version. That's the first isn't it?

17. Jill's was in the early to mid 90's, I guess....
I really wouldn't be shocked to hear that nobody involved with Katy Perry's song had ever heard of it, though.

3. I think it is an attempt to increase record sales
by appealing to boys fantasies about two girls, and to lesbians fantasies about cute girls.

I mean, look at her, who wouldn't want to kiss her?

8. I was backstage with her on Warped Tour
Most musicians treat her like the no talent hack she is.

12. They've been playing a lot of "live" performances of her on TV lately....
and they're pretty awful to listen to. I couldn't decide if her voice was just worn completely out from strain, or just bad to begin with.

It may be both, though....

14. It's bad all the way around
I hope she makes a lot of money of that song, because she doesn't really have the goods to bring it. It's not like Warped Tour is a bastion of huge talent (sans The Aggrolites and Bedouin Soundclash) and even then, she was noticeably inferior. If she can't hang with a 35 minute set, how are you supposed to carry a whole show? If you ask me, ten minutes down and five to go.

15. I suspect you're correct.....
I don't find her CD as irritating as some (vocally-processed mess that it is), but I have absolutely ZERO respect for any musician that can't put together a decent live show. As far as I'm concerned, that's of utmost importance.

18. People here really don't understand the concept of satire, do they?
I mean, my teenager gets it, and she's failing English.

19. I love the songwriter, Cathy Dennis
I voted it's a third wave feminist song, although I don't know why the gay theme wasn't touched on at all in any of the available answers. It's getting that whole issue out there in the public's face, isn't it?

But back to the songwriter, she had a brief dance-pop career of her own in the early 90s, and I love "C'mon Get My Love" and "Just A Dream" particularly, also "Touch Me (All Night Long)" although the original version of that was better (by Fonda Rae in 1984.)

Cathy also wrote "Toxic" for Britney Spears, and that's one of her best songs. And she's written 7 other #1 UK pop hits including Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head", another fabulous song that was also a US hit. Cathy's one of the most successful UK pop songwriters.
