2. I suppose I'd be sick of snow if we actually GOT any.
We live in this strange area of Pennsylvania which snowstorms manage to completely miss. We've had maybe an inch or two so far this year.

It's really bad. Tomorrow could be a massive clusterfuck if things don't improve over night.

I want this crap to go away!

Snow is gods way of shitting on us. I will grant that we as a species deserve it, but it still sucks.

10. I live downtown and Hubby works on Cherry Hill
and he left about 630---not terrible accumulation---not enough to where we were snowed in like last week, anyways.

So he says the entire way up to Cherry Hill was AWFUL. Normally an 8 minute drive (esp on Sunday) took him 20 minutes. Good thing he left early!!! Said cars were spinning out and couldn't get up the hills, etc.

Maybe Mayor Pickles will use Salt on our 1/4 inch of snow, rather than using it during the 3 feet we had 2 weeks ago :eyes: NOthing like shutting down a major metropolis because you can't get your head out of your ass, Mayor

Thanks, Greg. Where was that decision a freakin' week ago?

14. Seriously
I'm an RN and work at the largest hospital in the city...Level 1 Yar yar yar. Hubby is an RN too but works at a different hospital around the corner.

When all that snow was around before Christmas, the hospitals were having to set up rooms for RN's and other staff to sleep in. People were staying there ALL FUCKING WEEK unable to go back to their homes in the North or South. It was ridiculous.

For 4 years we lived in Yakima (yuck) and at the first fucking FLAKE there were sand and salt trucks and scrapers on the roads. Granted, there aren't the hills but the city didn't shut down because of snow.

EVERYONE i work with keeps saying "Remember the snow of '08 when election time comes" and I sure as shit will. We live DOWN-TOWN and were snowed in for a WEEK. A FUCKING WEEK. No busses, no taxi's, sure as shit ain't walking to First Hill from Belltown....

WHOLE CITY shut down because that asshat can't bring out some fucking salt.

Oh, and the 'sand' they used, at least down here in belltown, was fucking TOPSOIL I swear to god. Not sand, not gravel, but DIRT. No traction whatsoever on these 30 degree hills. It was beyond the pale.

16. I know, I know.
Allowing an entire city to come to a fucking halt because he doesn't want to use SALT is beyond idiotic.

I understand the concern about the environment, but fer freak sake, it's not like we get a lot of snow all the time! This year is very unusual, granted, but in the overall scheme of things, I don't know how much damage the use of salt on the roads could do, with as few times as it would actually have to be used.

23. The thing is
if they had salted the Saturday or Sunday before Christmas, they would have only had to salt ONCE. That's it.

Using the Salt would have melted the snow enough to plow the 20 inches of frozen ice. But, of course, they did not use salt and the Mayor Fathead was on TeeVee talking about how mysterious it was that the plows were ineffective against 20 inches of frozen ice on the roadways.

Gee, ya think?

And like you said, it's not like it constantly snows large amounts. They would have had to salt ONE, maybe TWO times and that's it.

Of course, Wall St and Western Ave, etc didn't even get a snow plow coming through at all. Well, we did the day after it snowed initially, on that Friday before Christmas, but then it snowed again over the weekend and not hide nor hair of a plow was seen downtown. No plowing around Harborview. Ambulances couldn't get into the bay. It was ridiculous.

And he gives himself and the city a B-? Fuck that. What's lower than an F? They get a G! ha ha

Oh, and aren't salmon SALT WATER FISH? Seriously....it's not like they were using cyanide or anything. SALT. ROCK SALT....

24. When I saw him on TV talking about how well the city did, I thought WTF?
Was he in Florida the whole time it was snowing? I think his grade should be Z, as in ZERO.

I work on Mercer near Queen Anne Ave, and often take Western off the viaduct to get to work. I saw pics of Western, and thought, what the hell? Western isn't exactly a tiny little sidestreet or anything.

Nope, Hizzonor didn't do well at all.

Days later it's still like a duststorm every time a bus goes down Third.

I hope this does turn to rain before morning...I'm not ready for another round of the Metro Mystery Bus Challenge. x(

27. Exactly. Last week I thought I was in the desert
Edited on Mon Jan-05-09 12:40 AM by Heddi
there was a gust of wind and this huge plume of dust went rolling down 1st Ave. I'm like "OMG! DUST-STORM!!11"

My car was washed relatively close to the snow, and it looks like it hasn't been washed in a year. There is this very thick patina of dusty sludge covering the entire jetta. I can tell you, my car NEVER Looked like that when we lived in Yakima. Oh yeah, that's right, that's because they PLOWED THE ROADS and USED ICE and REAL SAND (not dusty top-soil)

blargh. This snow ruined my perfectly miserable night

Edit:

Oh, and don't even get me started on the bussess---

The sunday before Christmas I was on Metro.gov for hours checking whether the 3/4 would be running from Harborview to 3rd & Cedar. Around 5am I called Metro and spoke with a very nice lady that ASSURED me that the busses were running, albeit on a snow route, and I could get home without...gulp...walking.

So hubby walks from Swedish Cherry Hill and meets me at the bus stop and we waited for an HOUR for a bus...nope, nothing. I'm checking Metro on my cellphone and they still list the 3/4 as running, but I'll be damned if one EVER passed us, EVER.

Now, I know there's snow and hills, but seriously--Seattle prides itself on pub trans and alot of people i work with (myself included) have metro as our ONLY method of getting to and from work.

A gal I worked with had to walk from Harborview to the TOP OF QUEEN ANNE HILL. Fuck that noise. I won't walk that hill on a normal day (huff puff!) much less a Sunday morning when it's blizzarding outside and cold as shit.

We were trying to call Cabs and the cab companies were just laughing and hanging up the phone or picking up the phone and saying "we're closed' and hanging up.

So that day we walked from Harborview, through Freeway park, got to like 5th and Seneca and paid a taxi $20 cash to take us to 1st and Wall so we wouldn't have to walk anymore. I was like a plump ice cream cone :)

20. I was shocked when I went out to eat this evening:
I had to put on a light jacket. It had gotten chilly since the rather warm afternoon. You know, barefoot, shorts, shortsleeves weather. Typical January weather on the Upper Texas Gulf Coast.

22. i didn't curse it until around March when each step into snow could send your foot through the ice
into the puddle below. :wtf: :banghead:

that is back when i lived in snow country.

it was when things started to melt off (during the day) and refreeze at night that was the worst time, plus the snow would get dirty, brown and black.
