How can someone not get life for killing someone while driving drunk?

So much so, I've been disqualified from serving on a jury for a DUI case.

7. Because the death penalty is not too harsh enough?
Should be life. Without parole. At the very least.

Hell, free room and board in exchange for terminating a human life -- no wonder murder is one of Americans' favorite crimes. Unless you're white collar.

9. How does it benefit society?
I understand the need to extract revenge for it, but removing an otherwise productive human being from the workforce for life - in a country with a higher percentage of people behind bars than just about any other... For a mistake.

It's just so wasteful.

What's the cost to society of incarcerating someone for life? I'd rather give that money to the schools, and get over it.

10. here in Texas, a guy was arrested for DWI that seriously injured another motorist
fifteen years ago he was charged with a DWI in a crash that killed his wife and baby
