I had a $75 gift certificate balance for a while, and I just added it to my account, then if I heard a song or a video or whatever that sounded intriguing, I'd be able to get it "free" on iTunes. I don't think there's an expiration on it. Sometimes, even if I had the CD, buying one track was more "cost effective" than going home and digging thru hundreds of poorly organized CDs and stuff.

And cheers to you for not listening to the morans who think iPods can ONLY play music purchased from the iTunes music store. I'm amazed how many of them are out there still.
