How do I shut off Outlook CONSTANTLY asking to compress files?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, "buy an Apple". Okay, got that out of the system. This is mom's computer. Running XP Home. I've already moved all her e-mail "keeper" crap onto a folder on her desktop or into a gmail account I helped her set up. There's pretty much nothing in her e-mail account, but every single freakin time she starts Outlook or goes to close it, up comes the dialogue box asking to compress files. The only options on the dialogue box are yes, cancel, and the X to close.

I've worked on it twice, and I'm about to punch it in the C drive.

Anyone?

1. So you want it to never compress files, and stop asking about it; yes?

5. I did. I even sacrificed a fax machine in it's honor, and left it some rum.
Didn't work.

4. After removing that much data, it's a good idea to compress the files
since the Outlook databases will not shrink, even though they have much less data, until you have done so.

8. Outlook runs on databases.
The size of these databases grow, as more emails get added. However if you delete all the emails, the database does not shrink, it will stay the same size. The only way to shrink the databases is to compact them. So if you compact the DBs you will free up hard drive space.

7. My dear flvegan...
Buying an Apple is only one option.

Since I've switched to Firefox, I no longer get those questions...

It is a relief to avoid them!

And I'm running XP Home too...

:hi:

13. I keep forgetting that Firefox and Thunderbird are separate ...
Switch her email to Thunderbird, and voila, presto chango, all her compression problems vanish!
