My laptop monitor's pixels are committing mass suicide
The top looks like it's taken a mud bath, and the sides are starting to follow suit. There's a dead pixel waterfall starting at the top of the screen and shooting out the sides.

I've recently replaced the keyboard and the power cable, and I don't want to spend any more on this stupid crap machine. So now I'm on the market for a "regular" flatscreen monitor. Can't find one cheap enough for my supercheapo standards.

I want a new sleeping bag, not a new monitor.

Aetna, here in CT, buys complete systems to replace old boxes...meaning they've got a glut of monitors, mice and keyboards, so they sell them as used components. Combine that with idiot IT people who replace computers for minor issues like bad soundcards or being more than 6 months out of date and you can get anything.

My brother is a hardware nerd and built his own state-of-the-art system as good as anything you can buy today...for about $1000 in their castoffs.

The company my mother works for buys her a new computer every 18 months. The last one got slow, they bought new a new system. She said "Can I have the old monitor?" and they said "Sure, now we don't have to dispose of it." (mind you, there is nothing wrong with it.) so now I have a gently used 19" CRT and a 15" LCD. So...ask around. The components are there for cheap or free if you're willing to scavenge to find them.
