16 year old blogs about being homeless
Did you see this yet?

I wish there was some way they could dig themselves out of that situation. Not just staying in a hotel room for two days; but, instead, a real solution.

1. I'm going to kick this because
there must be some ideas the Lounge has... some thoughts or opinions.

I hope.

3. Thanks... I think I will
I want to draw as much attention to it as I can. The story has bothered me all day... I can't stop thinking about it... I can't get the image of that 16 year old girl out of my head. :-(

7. I live the next town over from them
This is a tough area to live in - very expensive. I could never have done it without having roommates, then I met my husband and moved in with him. If I'd been trying to pay rent on my own, I would have been in the same boat.

I don't think there are any easy answers. Even if they both picked up jobs serving fast food or bagging groceries, they'd need to save up money for first and last month's rent and security on a place. It's almost impossible to save money when you're homeless - you have to eat out because you have no place to cook, you have to do your laundry in a laundromat - everything is difficult and tends to cost more because of it.

Sad story and all too common. :(

9. I wish I could just take them in...
maybe get the mother a job where I work... since we are hiring next month.

But my husband would kill me. I already sort of "felt him out" about it.

If only I was wealthy...

10. Drive past any cheap motel
and the cars you see outside probably belong to people who are homeless. They may have an income which allows them to catch a few nights a month in a motel but are otherwise living out of their cars or in shelters.

11. I hope they don't have children
No child should have to be homeless. No child should have to go to bed hungry.

12. Neither should adults.
But whole families are becoming homeless due to our economy.
