Okay, my daughter and her boyfriend have been sitting in the car in the driveway

for like 45 minutes now (and it's like 15 degrees out and they don't have the car running all this time)....

Is it time for me to start flicking the porchlights on/off? Call her on the cellphone and innocently ask, "honey when are you coming home?"

But they are 20/21 - almost 21/22 (both great students in college) .... AND they were sitting in the driveway (rather than out somewhere else less noticeable to me "the mom").

Those factors caused my hesitancy. (I actually didn't flick the lights on/off....but I did let the cat out the front door and then shut the door again....the cat wanted to go out....what can I say? :shrug:)

As I'm sure you well know, when they're away at college you have NO CLUE what they are doing, so you don't worry. But when they are living 'under your roof' you feel responsible/watchful over them again. (Same thing my parents told me, which I *hated* at the time). More proof that I've turned into a modified version of my parents! aaaaccckkk! ;-)

and current days makes it maybe more difficult for us; both of my daughters have cars, and I can slip into the consequential fears at any moment.
