Man, small-town living is WEIRD.
There are no drunk assholes outside screaming and lighting fireworks. WTF? :P

4. Their cousins? No, their cousins are too smart for that.
They're screwing their siblings and/or parents.

6. The drunk guy across the street from me isn't doing as many fireworks
as normal. Most of the ones I'm seeing this time around (and on Christmas Eve at 9:30 pm, I'm sure parents all over the neighborhood appreciated that) are the smaller fireworks. He's not doing the big booming ones, just a bunch of little aggravating pesky firecrackers. I like the big booming ones. :(

18. I have... bad memories involving bowling.
Long story short, it was an end-of-the-year party in 3rd or 4th grade, if I recall correctly. I was standing right next to the corner of a counter or something that was just below waist height. Somebody jostled me from behind.

I didn't set foot in another bowling alley for about ten years.

I hate it. No bookstores. No coffee shops. No wine stores.

Makes me want to cry.

25. NOOOOooooo!
Not that cute one at the end of the line of shops?! Near the gazebo? Tell me that didn't close. I LOVED that place!

As for crazy people on New Year's Eve--certainly NOT in Honeoye Falls! D00d, they are way too refined there! Heck, we didn't even have any screamers in our town, and there are WAY more camo-wearin', Labatt's-drinkin' rednecks over here on the west side.

26. The adults are, yeah. But the teens around here are just as obnoxious as anywhere else.
So I was expecting more noise, I guess. Maybe they all went to crazier towns to party last night.

Yeah, that coffee/bookstore place looked cute from what I saw. But it closed right before I moved here. It was a favorate of a lot of people in town, but apparently not enough to keep it going. :(

30. Oh that totally sucks
The shop closing, I mean. When I lived near Honeoye Lake I used to go there all the time. It was a great mix of good books and original gifts. I was even going to suggest doing a profile on it for the magazine I work for. POOOOOOP. :(

23. Tell me about it.
This town is so dead that I think the roaches have all died of boredom.

And I'm 2-1/2 hours from civilization!

I don't like church or football, so I don't have a social life.

29. I love small towns
I grew up in them, lived in them most of my life and love them. I love knowing all my neighbors, being able to go to the bank, the grocery store, the emergency room, the police department and having someone say, "Hi skygazer, what can I do for you?"

After 10 years of living in the Bay Area, I can still go back home and have that happen. That's cool.

Yeah, there are down sides to small town living - there are to everything (take cities, for example - crime, traffic, noise, light pollution). But if you don't have a coffee shop, you probably have a good diner. If you don't have a wine store, there's probably a cozy neighborhood bar. I've never lived in a town without a bookstore but Amazon delivers.

For most of my life, I was able to walk out my door and take a walk in the woods, or at least get to the woods fairly quickly. I could ride a bike safely, send my kids to school without worrying too much about them, drive a road and be the only car on it. I like all those things.

Home is what you make of it.

31. We have TWO cozy neighborhood bars here...
one of which is attached to the brewery here in town so they serve their own stuff. I'm tempted to go there and just start sampling. Some of their stuff looks good, but in the stores they sell it in big half gallon growlers, not little beer bottles. So I don't wanna buy a half gallon of beer if I'm not sure how good it is. :P

33. The bars in this town suck.
It's full of drunken losers. And the diners (only two of them here) serve nothing but cold, greasy food. I hate my neighbors. I wish I didn't know them at all.

I do like the idea of walking in the woods whenever I feel like it. There's no greater inspiration than a walk in the woods. I used to do that in the other small town I lived in.

I wanted to like this town. I really did. But I just cannot find one good thing about it. At all.

Sorry. I'm kind of a grumpy gus today. I didn't have that good of a New Years.
