Bottled, Tap, or Filtered Tap Water

1. On CNN they just said tap is tested more than bottled

and is about 1000 times cheaper. At home, I've been filtering my tap water with a Brita filter. It's cheaper than bottled water at least but maybe it's not even worth the cost of filtering it. At work, I just drink out of the water fountain.

2. Bottled

I know, I know--stupid and foolish and wasteful etc.--but considering the goop in our century-old pipes, not to mention the putrid quality of our village water (ancient wells so bad that the village always sends out notices that the water MAY be contaminated and the village is "looking into the problem" and "hopes to have a solution in place by next year"...which never comes), AND the metal plant and the chemical plant on the edge of town, AND the fact that the village doesn't have a sewer system and we can't be sure that everyone's septic systems are up to snuff...we decided to let Coca-Cola or Pepsi or whoever do our filtering/treating for us.

4. I just drink straight from the tap - I've thought about filtering it, but I'm too lazy

Our local water tastes reasonably good, not Bay Area good, but better than the Southern Cal. water I grew up with...

8. Bottled and filtered

If I had to pick which was the purest, I would say filtered. Figure filtered water, is tap water (that has had to meet federal standards and regular testing) that has been improved upon with filtering.

15. Yeah but it does cost more

I feel it's worth it just for the peace of mind, though; it still costs a lot less than getting bottled water. And you're right that it should be purer than unfiltered tap water.

9. Filtered tap

I only use the Brita because without it my water tastes horrible.

10. Hose

Nothing beats a bellyfull of hose water (and bacteria) in the summer.

My wife yells at me to stop. I can't stop.

13. I usually drink bottled despite the drawbacks

I work at this food plant with the same city water I get in my house. We have had bacterial contamination twice. They turned out not to pathogenic, but still there should not be bacteria in city water. Was the public told either? No. They also do hydrant flushing and such without telling us too. I feel like drinking the city's water is taking a chance.

Because I don't like the taste of regular water. I can only drink flavored water, for the most part.

Until I can no longer afford to support my habit.

It is imported locally, however.

If I'm thirsty I'll drink tap water in a pinch but sometimes prefer to wait til I get home. Hauling enough water to get me through the day is something I used to be better at.

19. Sparkling water.

I usually like sparkling water the best. The bottles have a deposit on them, so they get recycled. I have also filtered my tap water, via a Britta pitcher with filter. Our tap water is pretty good, but I don't like the amount of chlorine they put in it. Hence, the filter.
