How would you react?
Someone from high school, whom you haven't seen for years (10+), contacts you via email.

You weren't good friends or anything, but were acquaintances since you were both in all the same classes.

They let you know that, after all these years, they wanted to let you know that they had the biggest crush on you back in school, and they wanted to apologize to you for their standoffishness -- they were short with you, not because they didn't like you, but because they liked you a lot and were so nervous around you.

Oh, and the person contacting you is gay. Or, if you're gay, assume they are straight.

They aren't really interested in a relationship; they just wanted to get it all off their chest, and find out how you are doing now.

Do you feel weird? Do you feel flattered? Do you email them back? Do you just pretend you never got the email?

How would you react?

1. People have tried to reacquaint with me.
I do miss Sharon, I do miss John.

At the same time and it truly is nothing personal, I'm too afraid to renew old friendships or acquaintances and anything pertaining to school days gives me more dread and nightmares than anything else - so I have to block anything to do with it.

Each person is different, however.

2. I replied
flattered, occassionally email, talked to in person once, had dinner with once. Realized this is why I haven't contacted anyone I'd been in highschool with since 1968.

Hell, if you couldn't talk to me back then, why would you think I'd change.

3. I would email them back
saying I was flattered and glad they could finally let go of it.

IMO, people DO change from the way they were in high school. I think about the ways I've changed and I try to cut others some slack.

4. Yes that is strange.
Me? Personally? Seeing there wasn't really a friendship in high school, I'd just ignore the e-mail.

Good luck with your decision.

6. I would reply. Just a short note to let them know that I recevied it

and that I appreciated the honesty and accept the apology. Let bygones be bygones, I say. If they respond then I would take it on a note by note basis. If ever I felt uncmfortable with the direction it was taking then I would be upfront and talk about it. Good luck whatever you decide.
