2. Tim Burton is doing his own version of it
It's going to be called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, same as the book, and Depp was offered the role of Willy Wonka.

3. Tim Burton is directing
And with Tim, you know he'll stay truer to the book than the original movie

CaCF: a Tim Burton/JD project
Tim Burton is directing. JD will be WW. Yay! I believe the production company owned by Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are producing.

The past two weekends talent scouts have been here in NC and TN looking for kids to be in the movie.

Why? You ask?

Because Roald Dahl was said to be unhappy with the Gene Wilder verion, not for Gen Wilder, but he just wasn't happy with his adaptation of his own book!

Personally, I think it's cool!

4. Anything that supplants the ghastly....
...Gene Wilder version will do for me, thank you very much.

There's more mugging in that one movie by a single man, to wit Mr. Wilder, than in all of NYC, by all of its perps, in ths same 100 minutes.

12. I hate the Oompa Loompas singing!
And hopefully the "Cheer Up Charlie" song will go away too.

I see one large problem with this remake: capturing the sense of wonder in the actors. When they made Willy Wonka, they didn't show the kids and their parents some parts of the set until film was rolling. Specifically the Chocolate Room, but I'd imagine the Inventing Room, the boat tunnel and the other really unusual parts were held back. Remember the looks on their faces when Gene Wilder opened the door to the Chocolate Room and they all walked in? The "I've never seen anything like this" look? Well, they'd never seen that room until just that moment, which probably made rehearsals entertaining.

So they're remaking one of the most beloved films of all time...everyone knows what a Chocolate Room is supposed to look like, because they've got the DVD. They know what an Oompa-Loompa is supposed to look like. (Will they use the little orange men again, or will they go back to Dahl's original African pygmies?) They know what the golden-egg-laying geese look like and what they do. And they know that Willy Wonka takes a cup of coffee, two slices of toast with marmalade, and a really big joint for breakfast. Will people look down on this movie if things are not exactly as they expect?

17. "leave this story ALONE"...?????
It seems to me that the whole point of Burton's version is that it's going to be faithful to the book, not some cutsied-up musical where they even felt the need to change the name.

Really dumb thing to do if you ask me. I just hope they dont try to use real midgets again or there will probably be trouble.

10. I have on my wall.....................
framed, an ORIGINAL Golden Ticket from the movie along with a photograph signed by the original cast. On the back, there are photographs of what the original cast looks like today at some signing somewhere. It's my daughter's most prized posession.
They can make another, but it will ALWAYS be second to the original.

19. "The original"...
...was Roald Dahl's novel. The 1970s musical was an adaptation of the original, and, from what I hear, one that Dahl hated.

14. I think it will be fun to see.
Nothing will ever take away my love for Mr. Wilder though.

Does anyone know if this one will be a musical also?

20. I LOVE the original...
It is so twisted and psychedelic, especially the scene where they are floating down the chocolate river. Wilder is af first creepily singin, then frantically screaming a poem about "where we are there is no way of knowing, etc." As an adult I noticed that there are actually all sorts of really quick subliminal shots in there, one of which is an axe coming down on a chicken's head. Truly insane. I wish they'd just leave it alone.
