Why the hell do things go wrong around the holidays?
Edited on Sun Dec-21-08 11:06 PM by Ellen Forradalom
If people are going to get sick, die or break up with you, count on it happening during the holidays. x(

2. Does realizing you hate your own sister count?
Because I've been realizing that one for about the past three weeks. x(

3. That's 'Countess,' if she's female.
And yes, it does.

5. I think she'd actually prefer "Princess" or "Your Majesty."
Seems to me like she would consider "countess" beneath her.

Never should have gotten an apartment with her. I can't wait until May. x(

4. The malfunction light just lit up on my car
Manual says it has to do with the engine, possibly emmissions. i did not want to spend the first day of vacation at the car dealership shelling out bucks for repairs.

I know that's not the same as heartache, but it's the last thing I need right now.

I also set my oven on fire at Thanksgiving. Luckly no one was hurt.

7. I just had a "check engine" light come on too
I'm hoping I can just ignore it like the one that has been on in my van for 5 years. Only this is in a dodge and they seem to have more serious issues than fords.

6. Heh. I had one ex who I kept either breaking up with or being stuck on the other side of the country
from for several holidays in a row. I finally gave her the VERY FIRST christmas present I'd bought for her four or five years earlier after we'd broken up the last time. Because I'd never gotten to give it to her before then. The last breakup was a bad breakup, but it was mutual so we were still friends.

I even wrote a silly little faux ex-hate card to go with it.

Voilets are blue
roses are scarlet
this present's for you
you dirty harlot

p.s. - That's the best I could do, I couldn't think of a word that rhymed with 'whore'.

She thought it was hilarious. :P

8. I hope you have some comfort there too.

While all the bad stuff is happening, and it does seem to happen right around holidays or birthdays, I hope you have friends and family there to help make it bearable.

9. My son just brought me his dead hamster.
Does that count?

RIP Fluffy. We'll miss you.

14. Oooooh
I'm sorry. To paraphrase John Donne, Any hamster's death diminishes me, because I am involved in hamsterkind.

10. Spent most of last week fixing my computer...

This other stuff, a lot less so.

11. Because misfortune has no clock on it.
Just because a certain time of the year is supposed to be "happy" doesn't mean that it's going to be. Cancer doesn't give a fuck if it's December or May. Nor do accidents or natural disasters. Are you any less pissed off if you get a flat tire in June?

Dudes breaking up with you around the holidays is to avoid having to buy you an expensive gift. That is fairly common.

12. Bad things happen all
of the time, but I think we're just more sensitive during the holidays.

Hoping what ever is bothering you gets resolved.

15. As one of those involved in one of the dramas, it isn't the holiday's fault.
These things happen all the time--it's just that everyone feels worse because someone they love suuffers loss or pain when we all should be sharing good spirits.

And after all, there's lots of good spirit--and SPIRITS--to be shared still.

Even with my break-up, I'm still in a Xmas mode and that's a good thing.
