DU folk who own/use/like guns come here for a REALLY Safe Haven
:-)

I own guns, I like guns, I like to hunt, I like target shooting. And I'm not ashamed or embarassed to say it. Guns put a fair amount of food on our table when I was a youngster (though not now, since I'm in NYC). The only gun I've ever sold was my .44 magnum Ruger Super Redhawk - I was gonna buy a nicer one, but never did (moved to NYC instead) and I've long wished I had held onto it. Oh, well. Some day! I'd really like an Israeli Arms Dessert Eagle in .44 Magnum. Nice looking gun.

So I have only rifles and shotguns now. No handguns.

Love my .243 Savage - it's an amazingly straight accurate shooting rifle.

And have a beautiful, hand-carved H&K (I think it's H&K? Maybe just HK? Something like that) .375 Magnum that was my dad's. Gorgeous, and valuable, rifle.

Come, we start a haven from those who think that dems should not own guns.

1. I don't own any, but have no problem with those that own them responsibly.
I onwed a .22 Browning pistol for a while, but I never used it, even to shoot targets. I sold it.

I used to be a half-decent target shot with a .22 cal. rifle.

6. .22s are fun
Nice plinking guns. Shot a lot at Boy Scout camp, and of course with the family as well.

I took my .22 rifle with me prairie dog hunting a few years ago, which worked pretty well, but my friends .22-220s REALLY rocked! They're .22s, but with extra oomph, which was needed for shooting at hundreds of yards in brisk, south dakota wind.

:-)

2. It's only a safe haven if you keep the safety on...
and keep the guns out of the hands of those who will misuse them.

Otherwise, I think I'll find a safer haven elsewhere.

3. The vast majority of Dems are for gun regulation
Notice, Kerry and Edwards going out of their way to vote for the AWB. Notice the most progun national Dem candidate in modern history has been drummed from the race even though he raised extraordinary amounts of money and had the internet on his side.

Guns are the devils right hand for many of us.

4. I don't think they're going out of their way to vote.
I think they're doing exactly what they should be doing -- attending to their elected duties on a critical day.

8. To paraphrase the Firesign Theatre
A power so great they can only be used for good or evil.

5. Safety on, and stored unloaded!
Also stored in gun vaults.

7. I don't trust mechanical safety devices
The only safety that matters is the one between your ears.
