Ok this is insane
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 06:31 PM by RandomThoughts

First off, this would be only a metaphor, and does not attempt to raise the standing of William Shatner or James T Kirk. Although I like the character and the man.

Look at the photo. Everyone on the right side is smiling, everone on the left side is not.

On the right of the captain, is the doctor, the nurse the Scottish engineer, and the Russian navigator.
Doctor and nurse, well we got an idea about what they represent.
The scott engineer, thats pretty obvious, railroad engineers of a certain exclusive society. And look how Scotty is the only one not in the group, but he is a bit away from the others.
and the russian.

On the left the vulcan, no emotion science, the asian belonging to a social group, and a secretary, or communications officer.

So on the right is the upper class, and representation of privileged groups, and even a representative of an economic system, that matches themes in startrek, where people do not have money, and people work for fulfillment not money.

and on the left is minorities, working class, social groups, and even the vulcan, many times associated with, well, pointy ears, originally suppose to have red face, you get the idea.

Everyone on the right side, except the russian, have past away, (may God give comfort to them, and their friends that feel their loss), everyone on the left is still alive.

Why do I find a metaphor in this??????????

But here is the thing. The side they are on is based on the perspective of the people in the picture. If the person looking out towards them were asked what side of the chair are they on, it would be flipped. This is an acceptable flip, cause of coarse Kirk is not more then just a person. Or this flips, since it could not be accurate metaphorical representation without breaking prime directive, or first rule.

I guess I am wondering if this was intentional by the people that told them where to stand, especially since so many themes Star Trek themes, especially regarding spock, borg, etc... were of a spiritual nature.

I know this is just interpretation, but I found it interesting, and do not give it any actual value, other then something to muse on.

2. You going to have to explain that
I do not find a pattern match :)

other then I always choose to express thoughts in the open. Which is actually an interesting thought of how it might match, some assumption that using a method of singular communication would be wanted.

Note my responce around a year ago on private emails.

Just googled my old name Redge777 to find old post. Of coarse my past post have been cleaned up, and are no longer on google, except some of the not so good ones. Interestingly, I tested this before, I can google a sentance in a post below or above my post in a thread and find it in google, but a sentance from inside one of my posts, does not show up on google. I might have to do something about this. Going to think on this, if true, it would seem to be wrong.

And found a russian guy has taken the same moniker, bastid. I have no Idea who that guy is, and cant read what it says on the page.

Ok back on topic, I posted a comment, that any email sent to me I would post anyway, and made the arguement that any private emails I would post, since it would be against my view of openess to have secret conversations that might effect a sub set of societies opinions.

So back to your comment, reply all does not suck, it is a choice.

3. Interesting and creative
A metaphor reveals more about the perceiver than the perception.

Your narrative hangs together and I like it.

4. Very well said
One of the very important things for me, is knowing that everything I see, and hear is colored in by me. And everyone else does the same thing.

The further you go out in metaphor or symbolism, the further you go into more of a mirror then a statement.

This is so important to understand ourselves.

5. In the cold war, to apply the same mindset accord the non-whites and Spock,
Chekhov should be on the left side too...

And Scotty is distance because he's an engineer and prefers machinery to people -- he's awkward so he maintains a distance. :P

8. Nice catch on scotty.
Well, from Gene's perspective, he did not believe that any society or group was all good or all bad, he was way out in front on social issues. He wanted a russian included to counter the mentality of the cold war.

He was fighting the ideas of division.

9. It is a cigar
but might we not see the texture,
and smell the aroma,
while we breath in the smoke.

15. Yeah, it's interesting ...

But the thoughts of the OP are far deeper and more interesting than the original Star Trek ever was.

Trying to drag this level of subtle metaphor from a show that simply SCREAMED at you what the moral of its story was is, I think, giving the people behind the show a bit too much credit.

I'm a fan of Star Trek and Star Trek:TNG (not so much the others, and *loathe* Enterprise), but, to me, it's not all that deep. The message of most of the shows is blatantly obvious.
