My "boss" (he's more of a mentor) was really sad when I told him
that I was moving. Even though I'll still be able to take care of some things for him. He's called me (feigning important info he needs to tell me) three times today and wants to come over and give BabyG his navy hat. It's a thing between them. When BabyG was 4, this man sat patiently for about 2 hours naming every single plane BabyG had in his collection (and that's a lot) and talking about his navy life in Korea on an aircraft carrier.

He's 80 years old and has become family to us and I sort of feel like I'm abandoning him. :(

It has been odd, and strengthening to me, to see just who has been good about this versus who hasn't. Mom, that means you. Thanks for the added pain this week, lady.

3. My room is done, most of the living room and most of the kitchen.
My dad came over to help today because I stupidly scheduled out patient surgery for this past Monday and I'm moving a bit slow. I needed to have something done quickly.

My mom has been horrible about me for the last year.

7. that is really too bad about your Mom...
My Mother is there for me ...a day late and a dollar short and she kicks me when I'm up. At least you have your Dad to balance it out. My Dad is pretty much a "No Show".x(

Take it easy...and slowly this will all come together.

It is sad about your Boss :( but, I am sure you will find a way to keep in your life.:)

I am really excited for you. I think the change will do you good. Takes courage to do this.

2. When I moved to another state 8 years ago
my family told me they would never visit me. And they haven't, even though its less than 150 miles. In some kind of backward way people who like you sometimes decide to punish you. Its natural to miss people, but I think if you want the best for someone you support their decisions.

4. My mentor/friend says he's positive I'll move back...
but it's wishful thinking on his part I think. He's a lonely kind of guy.

I fully expect my mom and my mother in law to shut me out, but my dad is coming down for the move so I am lucky in that.

I'm so sorry that your family treats you that way.

5. My dear MrsGrumpy...
I am so sorry that your mom is being so unpleasant about your move...

That's just wrong.

One of my daughters moved all the way to Boston and we applauded it, and saw it as a reason to visit!

6. He sounds like a really nice man, MrsG.
I love your story about him naming all the planes BabyG had. That's really sweet.

As to your mom, sometimes people can be too weird for words.

I'm glad your dad has been lending a hand, though.

8. He is. He can be a bit gruff at times, but he gave me the hand up
I needed in the appraisal business, which can be hard to get into. We've had our moments when he shouts because he doesn't understand computers...but he always gets over it. :)

My dad is the most wonderful person on earth right now.

9. I'll bet BabyG inhaled
all of the attention.

It's heart warming to hear this old gent being so kind to you, thinking of you and your family.

I do not envy you the packing. I only moved 22 miles, and that was an ordeal!

On the other hand your boss sounds like a wonderful person. It's sad that you will lose being in such close proximity to him but you can still keep in touch easily and hopefully there'll be many more like him in your new city. I'm sure he wants whatever is best for you. But, having moved to a different country myself, I know how hard it is saying goodbye to old friends

Good luck with the move:hug:
