What is your LEAST favorite Christmas song?
Mine is definitely "Silent Night." It's an annoying song as it is, but people have a tendancy to sing it incredibly s l o w l y, which means that any performance of it goes on for centuries. Plus, because of the "simple" melody, people love to have their children perform it, but the opening note is a hard tone for the kiddies to come in on, so they invariably sing the entire thing off-key in addition to the plodding tempo.

Silent indeed; whenever I hear that first agonizing syllable ("Siiiiiiiiiiiii..."), I literally want to stab my eardrums out with an icicle. Oh, and everything by Mannheim Steamroller sucks as well.

1. I'll agree with the Steamroller bit, and add anything by
Celine Dion or that Trans-Siberian Orchestra (they are basically the Dream Theatre of the Christmas music circuit).

What do those bands (MS & T-SO) do all year? Do they do any non-Christmas music?

The way they shout "Hark!"

It just rubs me the wrong way right off the bat.

34. Now that you mention it...
Isn't that the tune that his daughter is playing when George Bailey "Snaps"?

But I like it anyway.

First few times you heard it, amusing I suppose. Christ, it's like the "Stairway to Heaven" of the Christmas songs.

12. That damn song makes my eye twitch!
I don't know how people don't just snap and mow down the entire food court area at the mall every time this asshole song comes on.
I hate it and I hate anyone who likes it...and that includes my own mother.

19. BINGO!
I consider it a successful Christmas if I manage not to hear it. It's becoming easier since I generally listen to Howard Stern on Sirius, Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy, via podcast, or holiday music I have on my iPod!

44. But as for Stairway to Heaven...
once you have heard Rolf Harris sing it, complete with wobbleboard and didgeridoo, then well... what more is there to say?

Here's one I found on Youtube... yes he absolutely murders the song but heck what a great way for the song to go down..

Hands down. :puke: Also any version of "Frosty the Snowman". That one seems to go on forever for me too. Oh--and the animated Frosty specials--both of them. "Happy Birthday!" GUUUUHHHHHH. May I borrow that icicle?

5. Toss-up.
Which do I detest more? The intensely annoying faux-coolness of Jinglebell Rock or the mind-numbing vapidity of that Paul McCartny abortion "Simply having a wonderful CHristmas time." Sorry SIR Paul, but repeating that line 800 million times won't make the song any better.

There are others that are more skin-peelingly sickening, but those two play all the time.

10. The sad thing about the McCartney song
is that, as bad as it sucks, it was better than anything else he was recording at the time, like that disco shit song "Don't Say Goodnight Tonight" or that other disco shit song "Coming Up (Like a Flower)"

11. true
I feel like Lennon had most of the creativity while McCartney had most of the technical skill. While Lennon hit a few out of the park in the 1970s, most of what he wrote was pretty bizarre. On the other hand, McCartney made superficially good songs, but they lacked much imagination.

20. "12 Days of Christmas" for the fact it never ends, but the worst is "Happy Holidays"
Edited on Mon Dec-08-08 02:59 PM by DinoBoy
Unbelievably bad lyrics, awful music, hammy performance, and unfortunately a really catchy tune that will be stuck in your head for months.

http://www.lyricsmania.com/lyrics/christmas_songs_lyrics_10575/other_lyrics_33314/the_holiday_season_happy_holiday_lyrics_360349.html

ON EDIT: To add that most performances of "O, Holy Night," which is a decent sounding song are ruined in that it ends up being screamed by professionals.
