Apparently someone moved the briefcase...

(it was later discovered that Stauffenberg had placed the bomb in a desirable position, but the briefcase was moved by another officer unaware of the plot)

3. I felt sure that this time they would get him. DAMN!
I went to college in Miss in the early 70s and every Monday night on TV was the replays of the Ole Miss game ... and it always looked like they won in the replays.

Then on Tuesday night were the Miss State replays...and damned if they didn't win too - every week

Then Thanksgiving came and Ole Miss and Miss State duked it out in the Egg Bowl.

Then came the replays ... You'd swear they both won - even if it was a blowout! - both teams won!

So I figured with Tom Cruise, surely Adolf was going to was going to eat the big one this time.

I mean, Tom Scienfriggintologist Cruise!!! I mean, if the mormons can go back and baptize whoever the hell they want, why can't Tom at least jump on the fuhrer's couch fer Chrissake!

Oh, what a world, what a world!

8. The thing that prompted my post
was some talking head on TV describing the film as a suspenseful thriller. I'm thinking how much suspense can there be?

10. Tom Cruise as a Nazi? He'll never pull it off.
I only believed him in one movie, and that was "Rain Man" - an excellent performance.

Other than that, it's kinda hard for me to take him very seriously.

I hate Cruise, but the movie looks really good (and I'm a huge WWII buff), so I'm going to go see it and make believe it's Hugh Jackman or Russell Crowe instead of Mr. Whackadoodle.

14. How much would you give for an old Claus von Stauffenberg water jug?
I know somebody who has one and might sell it at the right price ;)

22. There was a family of Stauffenbergs at my first church.
Edited on Thu Dec-04-08 05:29 PM by mycritters2
And yes, they were related. That whole church was German immigrants, many of them fairly recent. The Stauffenbergs had come between the world wars, and had been in touch with some of General Von Stauffenberg's family before and after the war. I saw the letters. They were deeply proud of him.

32. I saw it just the other day at a friend's house
Just like the plastic water cooler jugs but twice as large and made of thick glass. Apparently that's the only water he would drink. My friend said his dad was once a card carrying Nazi party member but did not support the war and the war crimes.

17. That movie looks like absolute shit.
People are saying it'll be a big change for Cruise. Fuck that. It's "Last Samurai" in a Nazi uniform. A big, stupid, pretentious Cruise vehicle.
