Nisha (the bride) on our way to the pre-wedding reception. About 200 people attended the event



The fish the girls family sends to the boys family on the day on the wedding. (The gold nose ring on the fish is common practice)



The married women in the family getting reading to put turmeric on the bride, the bride looking rather grumpy about this (turmeric is antiseptic, which is why we do it)

I don't agree with "pragmatic moderates" yet I have never preached pragmatism to gays. I think it's a dumb strategy either way. That's a broad brush you're painting with.

But back to the wedding. I had a question that combines these two trains of thought: How do Indians in general, and your family in particular, deal with that issue?

58. i was pointing out the hypocricy of the stance. if you are against the dlc, and realize

that the dems are prevaricating cowards on glbt issue, then your stance isnt hypocritical.

what issue? gay marriage? i think they dont care who gets gay married so long as it isnt their daughter

27. well she has never visisted a third world country and i was afraid of culture shock

calcutta is intense, its dirty and smelly yet can be immensely luxurious. very poor and very wealthy. i didnt know how she would deal with all that.

i was also afraid she would get sick. :)

Of course, I had to scan them all to check out the henna artwork... A long time ago, I dated a girl who was a henna tattoo artist who filled me in on all of the history and traditions of it, which was pretty interesting. I was a test subject for some of her techniques (which was a lot of fun for my conservative parents- "Yeah, Mom- it's permanent. It won't EVER come off!!!!" LOL)
