Never had this problem before. On hold forever. What's up? Anyone know?

3. Oh, well that explains everything.
Seriously though, I wonder if it has something to do with what happened over there? Never, ever been on hold this long in 30 years of membership. It's weird.

5. They probably fear that you are complaining because your credit limit
has been cut in half for no good reason.

6. Worse than that. They sent me a letter
stating that they closed Mr.'s account because they were informed he is deceased.

I finally got through. They apologized and re-opened it.

10. Seriously. The letter started out.
Dear Estate of Mr. Midlo,

We have recently been informed of the death of the cardholder, Mr. ___________. Please accept our deepest condolences at this difficult time. Blah, blah, blah.

Then it went on to say if there was anything they could do to resolve the balance (which there is none) call a specific number.

That, coupled with the fact that he is going to Mumbai in a few weeks, well, let's just say, I'm a little aghast.

The letter was dated November 28th, so if he was off somewhere out of cell phone reach, and something HAD happened, it would have been the first I would have heard of it.

I *think* they confused my FIL with Mr. Same name. Same address.

13. Thats possible I suppose
Stranger things have happened. I am surprised it was so easy to straighten it out though.

really surprised.

But good that they took care of it.

15. You're surprised?
You know how many times I had to send/fax both my FIL's and dad's death certificates to close their accounts?

I STILL get calls about FIL.

I think the woman on the other end looked at the account and realized that since he had just used it a couple of days ago, chances are he's still alive. Plus, the pattern of spending is the same.

My guess is that they got information from Social Security about my FIL and didn't match the SSN's, just the name and address. WHich is probably why they took care of it so quickly. Perhaps it has trickled down that their system doesn't work. The fact that she didn't insist on speaking to him is why I feel that they might have gotten some sort of hint about this.

21. I am surprised they fixed it so easily.
usually that is a huge hassle if they think the cardholder has died, when infact he or she has not.

I think it is good of them to have realized their error and fixed it easily.

22.  I think there's more to this.
The woman told me that they get the information from the Social Security Death Index. And, we have a VERY common last name.

25. Well
two things:

First, I am glad your husband is ok.

Second, I hope that it is just a clerical error, and there is not another family somewhere grieving the loss of a loved one.

11. Literally a form type letter with his name, our address
and the last five digits of the AMEX #.

Freaky doesn't begin to cover it.

Especially when the poor bastard opened the mail himself.

The reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. :scared:

Mark Twain quotation after hearing that his obituary had been published in the New York Journal.

17. LOL. Well, my husband didn't have his obit published, but
AMEX sent their condolences. Isn't that kind of the same thing?

Gotta admit. I felt terrible for the guy. I mean, here he is a CABG x 4 patient with a defibrillator, pneumonia survivor x 2, has heart failure and all other ails and gets a letter in the mail from a credit card company he's had a card with for over 30 years claiming that he's dead.

The poor guy.

Typical night at Chez Midlo. :eyes:

I swear, if BoyM weren't so cheerful and pleasant, I would have carved him like a turkey myself on Thursday. The kid drives us bonkers.
