How do I know he loves me? He brought me dead mice every morning we were there, deposited at the front door of the bunkhouse (where we slept).

This is the most excellent and affectionate Biko (and my SO's adorable nephew):

1. Few seem to understand: A cat wishes praise for its hunting skills.
I understand the need but cannot stand the reality...

2. Gopher heads on the front porch = Love
My cat used to do that. He was awfully proud of himself.

4. and that's why my Esther will ALWAYS be an indoor cat
There are a ton of squirrels and chipmunks outside and I have no desire to clean up dead ones every day.

5. Maybe your cat will be selfish and eat the whole carcass
Not all of them do it.

6. Nah. Ranch cats are not synonymous with mafiosi.
He's a strictly outdoor cat, but we let him into the bunkhouse with us every night for a few hours before we went to bed, so he thought we were da bomb.

Lots of petting and head scratches on a soft couch apparently results in undying ranch cat love. :7

8. He is, indeed, a most formidable feline.
He has a much, much shyer assistant ranch cat, the Lady Warren--who was too shy to have her picture taken.

Made my two city slicker indoor cats look like a couple of worthless lay-abouts by comparison. Which, of course, they are. :7

That's a definite sign of love and respect.
He's making sure you're well fed, and he's showing you that he's a good hunter and can provide for you. :)

Good Kitty!

10. A cat adopted Mom and myself one Thanksgiving
we had quite a few people over that year. One even brought venison! And then, just as we were sitting down to the feast, in walked a gorgeous calico! We had two cats, but one was an orange tabby and the other shiny black, so it wasn't either of them.

Afterwards we went to housesit for our friends who had gone back to Pa. (from Conn.) for the holiday. Several days later, we returned -- and there she was, in the driveway, winding around my legs! A few halfhearted attempts to locate her human later, we had a third cat. Mom named her "Anastasia" after the princess, since we had no idea where she'd come from. Purrrrrrr.....

12. He looks a lot like Chaucer (otherwise known as Fattypuss Rex at our house.)
They are both great big old strong, black, kitty boys.

Huge paws.

Gawd, I do love that cat. He is, without a doubt, the best cat I have lived with in my 48 years on this earth.
