Flew in some bad turbulence today.
Hit my head on the ceiling of the jet. It was so bad, that after it was done, I seriously thought the plane had taken damage, it didn't sound the same as it did before.

1. I am very glad the plane, and you, are okay.

That sounds like a terrifying experience. Did you let them know that you hit your head? Did you have it checked out to make sure it wasn't anything serious?

2. No, it was OK and I'm OK
The plastic tops of those things seem to give way. Probably designed for that very reason. It was wild though. Thanks for asking. :hi:

5. Yes, but it wasn't that tight.
A lot of others hit the ceiling as well.

10. You and a lot of others hit the ceiling?
That is not mild turbulence at all.

What flight was this?

11. I should say...
It was an American Eagle express. So it was already pretty tight quarters. Still pretty crazy though.

7. From Chicago to the east coast.
Spent Thanksgiving in Madison. Saw President-elect Obama last Wed. Went by his house to take some pictures and his motorcade went by. He was on the phone.

8. Weather was awful in that area today -- no wonder you got bumped around.
Always keep your seatbelt fastened when it's turbulent. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get those head-shaped dents out of an airplane's ceiling?

13. I love when the captain comes on and announces
"folks, we might be experiencing some SLIGHT turbulence" because I know it won't be slight, but also it adds a little thrill to the whole experience, which is generally fairly mundane. Of course there's a risk, but turbulence makes it fun!

17. Actually, there's virtually NO risk from turbulence...
...unless you're coming in for a landing when it hits. Of course, that doesn't make it any more fun, particularly if you're prone to motion-sickness or are riding on a puddle-jumper with practically no headroom.

18. Then I wish the airlines would make that clear to people.
To me it seems as if the airlines would just as soon pretend turbulence doesn't exist, from a marketing standpoint anyway.

23. Kind of like when the nurses are getting ready to do something to you and say
You will feel some SLIGHT pressure in this area. Next thing you know, your knuckles are white and your teeth are clenched and you are telling them that WAY MORE THAN SLIGHT pressure.

14. Yikes! Glad you're OK!
I think I would have lost it completely. I've been in a few bad patches before, some when passengers started crying, holding hands, praying, etc. Totally freaked me out. I'm not the calmest person on the plane. :scared:

16. that's what happens when you forget to bring your Bible!

kidding. scares the crap out of me actually. i loved turbulence (weird kid thought it was "fun") until once when i was in awful turbulence years ago when the plane got thrown around (bad tstorm, amazingly beautiful cloud formations within the clouds though, like Greek columns connecting the lower and upper cloud decks). but it made for some scary ass turbulence and made me a bad flyer for years afterwards.

19. I'm on edge with the
slightest bit of turbulence. I think I'd be in panic mode if I experienced what you did.

Glad you made it back safe and sound.

21. Had I been there, you would have thought Daffy Duck had hopped on board.
Something like that would have scared me so bad, I would pull one of those crazy Daffy Duck moves until they came for me with a straight jacket and something nice in a needle.

I'd still be :scared: even after they knocked my ass out.

Glad you are safe and on land again.

27. It was on. But I always leave it on loose.
I've seen the pictures of the 737 that had it's roof ripped off and the people who didn't have seat belts on were sucked out. I will tighten it next trip though. Thanks. :hi:

I get pretty nervous over turbulence. I try to reason myself out of it, but it still bugs the hell out of me.

Once I was reading a really good book, and it helped me ignore it! But it has to a really, really good book for that to happen.
