What do your Christmas Trees look like?
Underpants just put up two trees, and I guess a lot of people put up their trees right after Thanksgiving.

I won't have one.

I am not sure I'll get to see any, except the public ones in lobbys.

So I'd love to see what your Christmas trees look like. Can you post some pictures? Lights? Tinsel? Strings of beads or popcorn? What kind of decorations do you have?

54. Not yet
our girl is at my folks' place so mom and her will decorate it when she gets home tomorrow

My wife basically goes with a "wooden" look for the ornaments with some basic red and green bulbs.

5. Your cats are young enough to climb
and play with all the ornaments. That would be an invitation for all kinds of mischief.

I have one cat who is too old and fat to climb, and the other one would happily just sit and hide under a tree.

I used to love having a tree back when I had roommates who wanted one. :)

8. I hope it's beautiful.
:)

I always loved the smell of pine, and I liked designing a different look for the tree every year. But now that I couldn't do any of that even if I wanted to, I can see the attractiveness of having a small ready-made tree that is done right out of the box.

9. I will put up a tree in a couple of weeks....
I have been trying to save up for an aluminum tree with a color wheel, but this year it will not happen.

My tree will have all sorts of ornaments that I have collected on my travels, and some handmade ones that my grandmother made. I will have to leave the lower 3rd naked because of Zeus. Otherwise, I will probably end up at the vet or something like that.

Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 05:49 PM by trof
Because Miz t. said "We shouldn't cut down any more trees. I want a tall skinny artificial one. I know it's probably made out of oil or something nasty, but it's a one time purchase."
Her wish is my command.
And it kinda makes sense.
We bought it 5 years ago.

All white LED mini-lights.
Minimal electricity.
This year it's all silver decorations.
Very pretty.
She's a real artiste.

I used to always get huge friggin Noble Pines back when I used to have a tree. They had thick waxy needles and lasted for months.

The stores have fantastic looking artificial trees out now, and it does save on cut trees.

28. We used to cut our own in NH and here in Alabama.
In NH our daughter was a kid and it was a traditional family outing.
Usually in the snow.
She and Miz t. and I and the dog in the pick up.
Search through the acres of the Christmas Tree Farm for just the perfect one.
I'd cut it down with a big bow saw and we'd carry it back to the truck.
I think they were about ten dollars.

Once we got it home and set up we'd build a big fire in the fireplace and have mulled wine, or glug, or hot buttered rum.
Our daughter had cocoa.

19. Mine is a sorry sight
I have a 4ft tall fiber optic tree.
it is leaning alot to the left. I can't get it to stand up straight. I have it sitting up on an end table in front of my picture window in the living room.
I put a red garland with gold stars on it. I have little miniature gold balls and little snowmen and santa ornaments. The top has a gold 5 pointed star with little beads and stars on it.
I have a large quilted christmas tree skirt- in green, red, gold, and white fabrics- which drapes nicely on the end table.

I told my husband that we need to buy a new tree next year. This was our "first" christmas tree - our house was always too small, so we used a small ceramic tree made by my great aunt for several years - it sat on our dining table. I would like to buy a 7ft tree, but they are so expensive.

sits on table set up in a LR window.
We keep the lights and garland on while stored in garage, covered with part of an old sheet. I put on some fruit/veggie ornaments that I got years ago at Esposito's in Tally.
Decorate the mantle with the bears and some other stuff, put up the outside wreaths (no lights).
Takes about 45 min on T-day.

31. 4 ft. tabletop with pre-wired white lights. We used to buy a live 5-6 ft tree
and decorate it with ornaments collected over the years--even some that belonged to my parents from
the late 40's. We salvaged exactly 3 family ornaments from the fire that burned down our house a year ago.

I've bought all tropical type ornaments--butterflies, orchids, shells, hummingbirds--for our little
fake tree. It's actually quite pretty.

34. Mine never goes up this early. I have three; if I don't have help I use one of the
small ones and if I have help I use the 8 foot tall one.

I don't have any tree pictures that I can upload right now, but when we do the big tree, we put alternating multicolored and all white strings of lights on the tree. Then we hang all the many ornaments we have collected over 26 years of marriage, plus some I already had when we got married.

Our tree is like a scrapbook. We buy ornaments when we travel, so we have some strange things: cactus made of green barbed wire, miniature pueblo, bats, The Alamo, Old Faithful, Mammoth Cave, The Minute Men, fish, etc; some really neat ones from various historic homes etc. Then there are the many kittycat ornaments, and train ornaments and the photo of our daughter every year since she was born in a picture frame ornament. There are jingle bells, regular bells, crystal, Nutcracker Suite characters, a unicorn, angels, hearts. We even have a bread dough sculpture of a caver rapelling down into a pit.

No tinsel, the cats eat it and barf. We have odds and ends of centerpieces, figurines candles etc and I have a much loved collection of Lladro Christmas bells which I arrange on a table

If I am feeling industrious enough, I hang wreaths on my french doors and hang a lighted garland around them.

We put red lights outside the house, and last year we got some red and white candycanes as well. I hang a wreath on my front porch.

I have pictures of our trees, they are just not in the computer, and the scanner and the computer are not speaking to one another these days, however here are a few of some crafts from prior years:

(this is Demon, the mother of our 3 large cats, having captured my door wreath. This is my favorite photo of her )

deep storage units. and there is a large room under the eaves as well.

If he comes in from the field in time we will put up the big tree. If he does not I will get out the smaller table top tree and put out more of the accessories.

It does look nice when we are done, if I do say so myself.

I do leave it up longer than most people, it is a lot of work to take down and put away too!

41. real tree, usually a Douglas fir, since I love the smell of real pine
Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 09:31 PM by tigereye

I have a lot of ornaments, mostly from Pier One when they sold ornaments and other stores that sold ornaments from around the world - Mexico, Africa, Europe, etc. I've also collected a bunch of garland, some with angels, some with musical instruments - that my husband always puts on. No tinsel since for some reason he dislikes it (maybe from when we had cats...) My son can decorate the whole tree now since he's taller than me. We also use those strings of small colored lights - although I always think I should spring for some of those bubble lights...

I'll try to post a pic if I can figure out the Mac pic. uploading, but we don't usually put the tree up until about Dec. 15th. I love candles, so I have a lot of pine boughs, and bayberry candles - love their natural scent.

last year i almost had to beat them to get them to decorate the thing. with the youngest kid being 15, i just think they are over that.
i will probably loose the battle, tho. we are fixing up 2 rooms on the first floor, so they are tantalizingly empty. suspect having a big empty space for it, instead of the usual shuffling of furniture, will make it irresistible.

but. but. sometimes i think he is the bigger kid.
i would rather put the effort into the outdoor lights. we live on a busy street, and lots of folks do some nice lights. might even tackle my big blue spruce this year. we had 2, and i used to climb around putting big lights on them. then we had a big spring snow storm that took one down, and knocked the top off the other. that one looked pretty bad, as they were close together, so one side was naked. so, i didn't do them for several years. but it has filled out, and now has a nice top. so, i might just get out there and risk my life for holiday cheer again.

61. The first year I had it, it was awesomely geeky though. :)
The Animator and I decorated it with as many geeky things as we could find. Keychain lightsaberss, Harry Potter glasses, and a speeder bike toy that 'explodes' at the touch of a button scattered across it like it had crashed into the tree, and the poor pilot clinging to the top isntead of an angel. :)
