7. Everyone stop watching the Oscars and switch to Democracy Now!
There is some messed up shit going on right now by the US-supported rebels. Now is not the time to watch pampered rich people masturbate in front of each other.

It is a dark night in history.

Haiti is going through a 9/11 moment.

19. That's nice, dear.
These people actually work for their money.

And what they earn is determined by democratic vote.

When these "pampered rich people" work so do thousands of other people. Try staying for a movie credit roll out sometimes.

The more we want to see Julia Roberts or Will Smith, the more people work.

You want to see an industry that's hiring? Watch the Oscars.

55. Credit watcher here....
Since Young Sherlock Holmes in 1985, when Moriarty checks into a motel after the credits...I stick around..never know what they have up their sleeves. Of course sometimes I am with people who do not appreciate the finer things in life and since they are my ride I must leave but I wont say I am happy about not seeing the credits.

70. Thank you.
As a former *crew person* who got a credit once in awhile, I can say that for every star, there's 40 or more *working people*, raising families, paying taxes and supporting other businesses...cleaners, restaurants, book stores - you name it. One has only to look at LA during a strike or a time of great run-away production to see the local economy take a dive.

Mechanics, carpenters, hairdressers, seamstresses, upholsterers, welders, drivers, furniture movers, gardeners, janitors, caterers...those are just a few trades (by any other name) that the movie business employs...I wish people would realize that most of *Hollywood* is comprised of hard working folks...working 12-18 hour days. How many who criticize the industry would be willing to work an 80 hour week as a matter of course?

delay for the West Coast? Considering it's originating from LA, it does not make sense to air it there two hours later than on the East Coast.

36. His speech was terrific
The peace pin was clearly visible, and his speech was very heartfelt. I thought it was terrific.

Remember, Susan Sarandon presented last year, and just flashed a peace sign when she came out.

Not everyone can or should be Michael Moore, nothing wrong with being understated.

And, I'm 1-for-1 in the pool!

158. It was Elvis Costello.
But his string work stunk up the joint, real bad intonation on the close. A regular, scale, studio guy would have been better. It was detracting.

But since he co-wrote the song, I should cut him some slack. A really beautiful song, IMHO. So, composer's license I guess.

thats my opinion as well. Of course its difficult adapting the books to the trilogy but honestly I didn't understand many of their decisions and the writing itself really wasn't that strong. I would have been very disappointed if she hadn't won. Also glad Sean Penn won and Sofia Coppola for Best Original Screenplay.

LOTR is a totally overrated spectacle, imo. Same old stuff.

Otherwise, it was incredibly boring and luckily I had a friend over to commiserate with. We both thought it was a pretty pathetic show.

This is a 3 hour commercial you are voluntarily watching. Except when it is interrupted by more commercials. Whoever won whatever award -as voted by the overprivileged- means nothing. It does not make your life better. Do something - don't just suck up whatever they shovel at you. Think for yourself.

Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 02:58 AM by mvd
It's a good series and more interesting than the books, but I think it lacks the heart of a series like Star Wars. Too many well done but cold battle scenes. It's lacked a Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker type confrontation. Also, it's nice when there's a real upset.

Also, that Sofia Coppola is cute and it was great that someone so young won.
