Mud Season in NH is far worse that snow season!!! Help!

I went to Boston today. When I left NH this am the dirt road was frozen and easy to negotiate. I returned at about 4 this afternoon...the temperature was in the 50's. I pulled onto the dirt road and slid and slid and slid. It was worse that driving in snow and ice. No traction, getting caught in other peoples' tire groves and just sliding back and forth. There is one big hill before my place and I barely made it. I have never driven in anything like this muck. Anybody have experience with this who can tell me how to drive in it???

This is an extremely early mud season and I bet it doesn't last, giving us the pleasure of two mud seasons in one year.

the good is that with the light snow pack we won't have much either way.

My solution is to stay home until BlackFly season.

Luckily, I have 4WD. Just got out and turned the hubs, put her into 4WD and climbed right out.
If you're gonna stay, get 4 wheel drive.

The melting the last few days has given us an early mud season. However, I still have snow up over my front door so it's going to be a while before it's gone.

I live on pavement but I've been caught by the mud on my way to fishing.

People I know on dirt roads have said that without All wheel or 4 wheel drive, which don't help much in the grease we call mud, you should actually think like a sailor with the tides.

Plan your trips when the road us frozen. Today that would have meant staying in Beantown an hour or two longer or not going at all.

ahhh Mud Season. The rest if the world just doesn't know what its missing.

...My little town doesn't have any paved roads, so we're pretty good at the mud thing. "Get out early while it's cold" is the best advice up there... also a good time for dog walking, as they are much cleaner when you get home! :D

We're more respectful of our mud here than you folks, apparently, but maybe it's because our mud sells for about $5k/acre. :P

14. You are having it early; we are having ours now, in Western NC.

That is, way up in the higher elevations, like 4000 feet or so. Many access roads to hiking trails (and the trails themselves) are deep, soupy mud this weekend. On Friday my buddy and I hiked to a waterfall, and I got mud on every garment I had on.

who actively seek out any soft and wet spots available in the back yard, just to do a little mud-bombin' before they want to come back in . . . I'm goin' through towels rather quickly these days . . . but I still love 'em . . . :shrug:
