tell me if you can spot the sale price of this jeep...

The salesman at the stealership refused to admit that he could even see the price listed on the website, much less that they would actually sell for that little...

he did offer to sell me a used, year old jeep for MORE though...

22. May I suggest renting the vehicle you need when you need to tow?
If you're not towing on a daily basis, then only buy what you need to use on a daily basis. Even if you go out every weekend, you'd still win in the long-run by renting versus owning :)

If you must own, find a used, beat-up standard shift pickup, something you can park and only use for towing the sailboat.

Now, if only Toyota would sell the Hilux over here :D

14. Even with a gun to my head, I'd never pay $45k for a Jeep.
I see it's allegedly on sale for $33k, but they're fooling themselves at $45k. I see the Hemi version is still $43k. And the big 3 wonder why they're failing.

19. Seriously.
I know it's apples/oranges, but you can't price a Jeep, ANY Jeep at the Corvette price point. Especially considering in the apples/apples game, an Escalade starts at that price.

I wouldn't touch one of the new Jeeps even at a great sale price (would pick up a 10+ years-old Wrangler in a heartbeat, though--those things will run forever). You'd be much better off with a different vehicle.

ANd keep in mind that I CAN get these for 33K, elsewhere... as well as a glut of unsold 08s still around.

Also, I am not aware of problems with this model of jeep.

20. Personally?
I don't know how big/heavy your sailboat is, but I'd go for a Honda Element, Pilot or Ridgeline, or a Subaru.

But that's just me. :hi:

p.s. Just do a search on reviews for Grand Cherokees for the last 3-5 years--not pretty, especially compared to what else you can get, comparably speaking, for the same price. Chrysler's cranking out a lot of shitty cars these days, and it's a shame what they've done to most of the Jeep lineup (which used to be much, much better vehicles than they are now).

21. 6500lbs
not counting the trailer.

It will take more than a subaru/element/pilot/ or Ridgeline to tow it.

23. In that case, I'd probably go with a Pathfinder or...
...a nicely tricked out F150 (my dad's choice for hauling a range of things, and he's owned a few since '82, never had a problem with any of them). A friend of mine who sells cars and used to drive a '94 Cherokee Sport 4x4 loudly mourns the decline of the Jeep's reliability. Four-letter words are usually tossed in Chrysler's direction. :7

Hell, I'd even take a GM/Chevy over a Jeep at this point (though, as I said, I lust for an older model Wrangler!).

25. Go Chevy-Duramax-Allison
For that kind of money, you can get a Chevy 2500 Duramax-Allison pickup if you bargain hard. The Isuzu diesel (i.e.- Chevy Duramax) is bombproof, the Allison shifts smoothly, and the extra weight capacity will give you safety and peace of mind.

29. The thing is
That I was hoping to find a dual use vehicle that can tow the boat as well as be driven during the not so nice weather and on a daily basis. Also needs to be able to seat crew and carry gear to and from the lake.

I see this jeep as the best option for that criteria.

33. Chevy makes a crew-cab that seats six
Chevy makes a crew-cab that seats six rather comfortably. My Dad has the crew cab short bed, and it's a fine multi-purpose truck. He has an open bed, but with a topper on it, you would have a truly all-weather all-purpose vehicle.

31. At least he'd tell you the price.
A few car purchases back I couldn't get the douchebag on the phone to even give me a ballpark figure until I came in, which was a problem since the dealership with the option package I wanted was in Oregon. :eyes:

I had to have flvegan call and check the price for me- needless to say the salesdouche had no problem telling him what they were asking. :grr:

34. But hey, it gets 13 MPG! Might wanna investigate this one!
We had several older Jeep Cherokees at work. They really sucked. They were very uncomfortable, badly designed interior, terrible mileage.

I had no idea they were that expensive.
