Right now is a damned weird time to be house shopping. We had realtors falling all over us. The one we got worked for MA HUD evaluating and pricing houses for the government, as well as worked in the New York state house helping form housing law. She's giving us classes as well! I don't think in a normal housing environment she would give us the time of day.
Since we've started, about three weeks ago, we've seen houses drop around 40,000k on average. One house lost 60,000 over about a month. Our credit is perfect and we've been saving a *long* time so we have a decent down payment, and with state, local and federal programs, we can get some great loans easy. It's really weird though. I feel like I'm grocery shopping in the apocalypse. I'm pushing my little grocery cart down the cereal isle, as happy as can be, listening to smooth jazz on my shiny iPod, examining the sugary goodness, as zombies run around eating the other shoppers, and store clerks stand on top of the shelves emptying their shotguns at the zombies screaming 'The end is nigh! Oh god, the end is very fucking nigh!'
It's surreal, and kinda fun.
:D
