American History and the Natural History museums in D.C. today.
Edited on Sun Nov-23-08 07:48 PM by arcadian
The American history museum opened Friday after having been closed for 3 years for renovations. We just kind of walked through, they had a live R2-D2. Pretty cool, saw the Washington as Zeus statue but didn't see the Star Spangles banner, the line was too long.

The American Museum of Natural History was way cool. They had an oceans exhibit which was neato. They had an actual giant squid, in a see-thru refrigerator, preserved. I asked the attendant if the organs were still in it and she said "Yes" to which I said, "Cooooooool..." Then lots of stuffed mammals, dinosaur bones, the Hope diamond and rocks & gems. Wanted to do the insect petting zoo but it was $6.00 to get in so we didn't go. If I want to pet insects, I'll go in the crawl space under my house for free. :D

For got to add, the R2-D2 was really popular. Small children were coming up to it and kissing it.

1. Aw....I miss DC!
I was a docent at the natural history museum (I volunteered in the Discovery Room, the children's hands-on exhibit), and I really miss going to all the museums there on the mall. Good stuff.

3. Yeah, it's great.
It's all free. We are gonna be in Chicago soon and we were gonna try to go to the Field Museum to see the Tsavo lions. We may not now as it will cost about $40.00 for the both of us.

2. I was there too!!
The robots were cool. A little too crowded. I can't wait until they have the complete museum up and running. It's only about 60% ready.

9. Going there Tuesday . . . can. not. WAIT.
I NEED to get out of the house. Wednesday will be when I see all of this stuff. I'm also going to the Newseum, as I've not been to that one yet. As an added bonus, it's supposed to be partly cloudy with some sun almost the whole time I'm down there.
