Do female companions of gay men you know vote much? (re: voting power!)
Edited on Sun Feb-29-04 02:10 PM by tedoll78
This "Will" has no "Grace," but I'm getting close to getting one, and she doesn't know a thing about politics. In your personal experience, is this typical or atypical?

Exit polls from 2000 show that about 6% of the voting population identified themselves as GLBT. I'm wondering.. if just about every GLBT person were to bring an ally of some sort to the polls, how would this change our chances? This could once again be the margin of victory in several key states..

6. A fag hag is. . .
Sort of the female sidekick to a gay man, the chick they can go out to dance clubs with if they're single or rant about stupid boyfriends to.

8. As a gay man, I have to say that I have always been offended by
this term. I think it is a nasty epithet and smacks of misogyny.

5. The Fag Hag vote
You have to admit, it's kinda catchy, more so than soccer mom or NASCAR dad.

But you've got something there with the importance of allies -- especially those who would otherwise not vote.

Maybe call PFLAG and see what sorts of election year programs it's planning.

"I have no [female companions of gay men] for me, but I'm
getting close to getting one, and she doesn't know a thing
about politics."

Is there some kind of [female companions of gay men] retailer?
Maybe you shouldn't have gone straight to the bargain bin when
you went looking for one.

:D

EDIT: kinda loses something in translation, doesn't it?

10. Apologies to those who are offended..
by that term. I didn't know whether to use that one or "fruit fly." And I didn't know how else to communicate the idea in the title without a term that most people (i'd assumed) would understand. Apologies.

12. Call it the Margaret Cho vote
LOL! She's got a whole segment of her routine devoted to how much of a fag hag she is! :7 In fact, listening to her is the first time I ever heard the expression.

Most people I know who hang out together, both gay and straight, tend to be well-informed intellectual types, therefore predisposed to voting anyway.

13. That's PERFECT!
Everyone knows what that means, lol!

(BTW.. I went to one of her shows when she came to Austin, and about 1/3 of the audience was gay men. Another 1/3 was their female friends. And the other third was, well, others.. hehe..)
