This is kind of important and I want to share it with my DU friends.
Today I picked TM up at school for the holiday. I needed to get gas after I got her, so I pulled into a 7-11 and ran my debit card, put the nozzle in the car, pulled the lever up.

Something in my gut was telling me to keep watching the pump (to the point where TM said 'Mom, are you listening to me?) I got back in the car because I was freezing, but I did touch the roof to release the static electricity.

All of a sudden, I hear water. I look and gas is pouring out of the gas tank because the automatic shut off didn't work.

A guy started across the parking lot, but I got to it pretty quickly, (that gut thing again, I guess? ) and there wasn't a ton of gas on the ground, but it was still pretty freaky.

So this is my caution to you guys. Don't trust the automatic shut off. Have an approximation of when you think the gas should shut off.

I did run the car through the car wash, but none of the bradford pear berries that were smushed on my car came off. Fuckers.

2. I always do. How naive am I?
When I fill up the car, I usually try not to go below 1/4 tank because I read somewhere that that wasn't good for the engine, so I just put it in and press 'start'.

And, thanks. It was a bit freaky. I didn't quite know what to do. I figured since it was a newish car and it had just been serviced, that we were going to be okay and the gas wasn't under the tailpipe, but running down the side of the car to the ground.

9. 38 degrees with a biting wind, douchebag.
Plus, I had on a teeshirt and flops because that is what I do. It's my Thing, baby.

TM told me I look 'poor', which is ironic considering I'm the one with a fucking job and not her.

6. It'd be okay. Don't worry.
The petrol tank is well sealed, and the petrol you spilled will have evaporated very quickly.

8. Exact same thing happened to me last week!
The station refunded me $5.00. Gas all over my boots and car. Pissed me the fuck off.

10. I just couldn't believe it. I've NEVER had that happen.
Weird, too, that my gut told me to keep watch on the pump, huh? I usually spend the time cleaning out my purse or doing yet another list.

Weird.

14. Only if you don't live in New Jersey.

A law that I routinely attempt to break when I'm there because I forget that you can't pump your own gas there.

My poor mom should have lived there because she HATED pumping her own gas, God bless her.

15. Seriously. Isn't that the oddest thing?
Never, ever had the feeling that I needed to 'keep my eye on the pump' before. In fact, with the price of gas so high this summer, I avoided looking at it at all.

How's things my friend?

16. I try not to watch the pump much myself
just because I am a serial penny pincher now. :(

Things are going well. I am waiting until January to officially hire a lawyer since I joined the legal aid group during open enrollment and they cover divorces as well. A co-worker used it for her divorce and she ended up spending only a few hundred dollars when all was said and done.

I am looking forward to having my mom come for Thanksgiving.

 I bet you're so happy to have TM home - happy until she said you looked poor....

17. I'm thinking I will be in the same boat.
The way the economy is going, I think I'm okay, but I'm not sure about Mr. and he's the bigger wage earner. It's flat out scary.

I am so glad to have her home. All three of them will be sleeping in their own beds tonight and it just is a very peaceful feeling.
