I had it on a 33 1/3 when I was a kid, and played it on one of those really cheap record players with flashing strobe lights on the front, and a Partridge Family Bus-like design on the rest of the box.

This was... 1973, maybe? Wow... I'm not really that old, am I?

38. If you are, so am I
Because that's exactly the way I played it--33 1/3 on a rickety portable record player with the little pull-up adapter for 45s--same year and all! I only WISH I had a Partridge Family record player! I had about four Partridge Family albums, though. Still got 'em somewhere.

10. Christmas Wrapping!
Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 11:11 AM by MorningGlow
The Waitresses are the BEST.

Also Someday at Christmas by Stevie Wonder; Step into Christmas by Elton John; Santa Baby (either Eartha Kitt or Madonna's version--I'm not picky); Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), usually U2's version, but again, I'm not picky; Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas--Pretenders' version ONLY.

On edit: Oops! And my all-time favorite, The Christians and the Pagans by Dar Williams. Humor for the wiccan set! Yay!

13. Here you go
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_Xdk4PujOE

Enjoy!

Amber called her uncle, said "We're up here for the holiday
Jane and I were having Solstice, now we need a place to stay."
And her Christ-loving uncle watched his wife hang Mary on a tree
He watched his son hang candy canes all made with red dye number three
He told his niece, "It's Christmas Eve, I know our life is not your style."
She said "Christmas is like Solstice and we miss you and it's been a while."

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able
Just before the meal was served hands were held and prayers were said
Sending hope for peace on earth to all their gods and goddesses

The food was great, the tree plugged in, the meal had gone without a hitch
Till Timmy turned to Amber and said "Is it true that you're a witch ?"
His mom jumped up and said "The pies are burning" and she hit the kitchen
And it was Jane who spoke, she said "It's true your cousin's not a Christian
But we love trees, we love the snow, the friends we have, the world we share
And you find magic from your God and we find magic everywhere."

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able

Where does magic come from? I think magic's in the learning
'Cause now when Christians sit with Pagans only pumpkin pies are burning

When Amber tried to do the dishes, her aunt said "Really, no don't bother"
Amber's uncle saw how Amber looked like Tim and like her father
He thought about his brother, how they hadn't spoken in a year
He thought he'd call him up and say "It's Christmas and your daughter's here"
He thought of fathers, sons, and brothers, saw his own son tug his sleeve
Saying "Can I be a pagan?" Dad said "We'll discuss it when they leave"

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able

Lighting trees in darkness, learning new ways from the old
And making sense of history and drawing warmth out of the cold.

17. Old city bar by Trans Siberian Orch

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F3WJTictHA

the video sucks but the music is great

OLD CITY BAR

In an old city bar
That is never too far
From the places that gather
The dreams that have been

In the safety of night
With its old neon light
It beckons to strangers
And they always come in

And the snow it was falling
The neon was calling
The music was low
And the night
Christmas Eve

And here was the danger
That even with strangers
Inside of this night
It's easier to believe

Then the door opened wide
And a child came inside
That no one in the bar
Had seen there before

And he asked did we know
That outside in the snow
That someone was lost
Standing outside our door

Then the bartender gazed
Through the smoke and the haze

Through the window and ice
To a corner streetlight

Where standing alone
By a broken pay phone
Was a girl the child said
Could no longer get home

And the snow it was falling
The neon was calling
The bartender turned
And said , not that I care
But how would you know this?
The child said I've noticed
If one could be home
They'd be all ready there

Then the bartender came out from behind the bar
And in all of his life he was never that far
And he did something else that he thought no one saw
When he took all the cash from the register draw

Then he followed the child to the girl cross the street
And we watched from the bar as they started to speak
Then he called for a cab and he said J.F.K.
Put the girl in the cab and the cab drove away
And we saw in his hand
That the cash was all gone
From the light that she had
wished upon

If you want to arrange it
This world you can change it
If we could somehow make this
Christmas thing last

By helping a neighbor
Or even a stranger

And to know who needs help
You need only just ask

Then he looked for the child
But the child wasn't there
Just the wind and the snow
Waltzing dreams through the air

So he walked back inside
Somehow different I think
For the rest of the night
No one paid for a drink

And the cynics will say
That some neighborhood kid
Wandered in on some bums
In the world where they hid

But they weren't there
So they couldn't see
By an old neon star
On that, night, Christmas Eve

When the snow it was falling
The neon was calling
And in case you should wonder
In case you should care

Why we're on our own
Never went home
On that night of all nights
We were already there

Then all at once inside that night
He saw it all so clear
The answer that he sought so long
Had always been so near

It's every gift that someone gives
Expecting nothing back
It's every kindness that we do
Each simple little act

:hi:
and really any version of O Holy night
I get the goosebumps

lost

23. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the guitar during these two stanzas
Then the bartender came out from behind the bar
And in all of his life he was never that far

When he took all the cash from the register draw

Then he followed the child to the girl cross the street
And we watched from the bar as they started to speak
Then he called for a cab and he said J.F.K.

given the reason's Judy Garland sang it in Meet Me in St. Louis.

But, then again so is a song like Christmas in the Trenches.

35. Fairytale of New York

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuBFGIUx-DM&feature=related

FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK

Fairytale of New York Cords

It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, won't see another one
And then he sang a song
The Rare Old Mountain Dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I've got a feeling
This year's for me and you
So happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

They've got cars big as bars
They've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
It's no place for the old
When you first took my hand
On a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of New York City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging,
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on a corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing "Galway Bay"
And the bells were ringing out
For Christmas day

You're a bum
You're a punk
You're an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God it's our last

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Can't make it all alone
I've built my dreams around yo
