What;s the best free anti-spyware? I tried to get Lava Soft and I could not find

3. Another thought: what does your ISP offer you?

Roadrunner customers get CA's Security Suite for free. Anti-virus, anti-spy, email scan, firewall. This one is definitely worth it. If you don't know, call your ISP and ask them what they offer. If they don't offer anything they'll at least point you to what their techies have tried and used - if they're reasonably good ISPs.

I must admit I'm using Ubuntu more these days and there's not that pressing need for such software.

5. malwarebytes too

Since most of the free versions do not do real time scanning having multiple tools is no problem and well advised. I find this to be a pretty good tool.

6. Spybot search and destroy is pretty good and it's free

Run the name through Google the website is so oddly named I never remember it.
