"Parents need not freak, as Meyer's tale is by and large chaste, its backbone Edward's repression of his thirst for blood, which serves as a blunt metaphor for carnal impulses and, consequently, establishes the entire affair as a saga of self-inflicted vampiric blue balls."

"If Edward, despite his youthful body, is in reality a 108-year-old man, then his lustful wooing of an actual high-school junior makes him, for all intents and purposes, a borderline statutory rapist and all around dirty old perv. Your move, Anne Rice!"

Gold.

3. My 13 yr old daughter is obsessed with this series...
She owns all 4 books and we're going to see the movie Saturday morning (we bought tickets weeks ago because she was afraid they'd be sold out).

The woman who wrote the series is actually Mormon, but from the little I've read about her, she doesn't totally fit that mold.

6. Where'd you get the t-shirt?
Other than the books, we've managed to miss all the stuff. That might make a decent chanukah gift.

15. Doesn't that make them *all* good?
Being dead, and all.

9. Don't know about the movie, BUT
Edward does not try to lustfully woo Bella. He tries to get her to forget him and go on with her human life, but it's Bella that will not give up on the idea of Edward. So, regardless of him being a 108-year old in a 17 year old's body, it's more about the girl being obsessed with this boy and his family.

11. i like vampires, but twilight is not on my "must see list"
instead my "must avoid" list. it looks like another typical teeny bopper movie except with a vampire twist.

i'll skip it

12. that review is funny though. My daughter has read all the books but the last one
she forced herself to finish, she tells me she doesn't think it was very well written, anyhow after all that she has no interest in the movie. Go figure.

14. We're taking our 14 year old granddaughter to see this on Saturday.
We've read the first book (just so we could commune with the kid) and we are already dreading the screaming hormonal audience.
