I love my SO but he canNOT cook
He made a broccoli, noodle, ham, and cheese casserole tonight that was, well, terrible. And I LIKE bland food.

But he tried, right? That's the important thing.

6. I didn't criticize him
I thanked him and ate a big helping. And did the dishes.

I'm just venting a little bit here.

3. He didn't use any seasoning
Or enough cheese. When I make something like that I throw in some garlic or sherry or something to pep it up a bit. And use WAY more cheese

Plus, I wouldn't have cooked the broccoli first; it was too mushy. I let it cook in the oven.

5. I'm so sorry - my husband cooks like a trained chef
He is making a chicken-garlic-mushroom concoction this evening that smells delightful and, in fact, cooks every night. I'm spoiled rotten.

But yes, it is nice that he tried. :hi:

12. It was nice he tried. My husband cooks everything until it's the same color, vegetables
meat whatever, it's all going to be brown and black and the burner is always turned up to incinerate.

16. not color blind just a fan "If i turn up the burner and or grill it will cook faster!"
i hate when he gets near the stove because he makes a mess and any flavor the food once had the promise of is just gone. Bless his heart, he's a wonderful man.

20. Then teach him
I enjoy learning how to cook, and admit I don't know shite. Well, I have done some good dishes, but that's just beginner's luck.

Really. Make it a fun thing. Give a man a meal and he'll like you, teach a man to cook and he'll bring you breakfast in bed!

23. I agree on the teaching part
:)

Make it fun yet instructive. Rent some of the "food" movies, like Tompopo, Babette's Feast, Big Night, Like Water for Chocolate, Chocolat, and whatever other food-movies are out there. Or, rent some of the shows for of Julia Child or Jeff Smith (The Frugal Gourmet.) Even if what they make isn't what you'd eat, you still learn technique :D

27. He does like my cooking
But he also loves to try himself. I think you're right, we should try to cook a meal together.

He also thinks I'm a genius because I can get all the food on the table at the same time and still hot.

22. At least he tried - mine has to be talked through microwaving a boxed dinner
He can't read the directions on the box and follow them. The one thing he can do is boil eggs - which I cannot. :eyes:

:D

Or egg salad, spinach salad and whatever else uses hard-boiled eggs (it's been so long, I've forgotten...)

But we almost starved to death when I was recovering from surgery since I was too whacked out with pain meds to talk him through any cooking.

26. I guess the big question, really, would be:
Is he willing to learn?

If so, the one book I learned the most from was The Joy of Cooking. I didn't do everything in the book, but I was willing to try things I hadn't tried before. Then again, I also understood campfire cooking, both from camping with my parents and Boy Scouts, so I had some cooking background going into it. I think I did pick up knowledge from watching Julia Child with my mother, even as a child. I always thought she was a good teacher and made it fun :)

28. No, my dear husband is not the least bit interested in learning to cook
He will watch cooking shows - we both have fun watching Alton Brown, Paula Deen and some of the others - but he will not apply what he learns to real life cooking. And as long as I am able, he doesn't need to since I love to cook and I'm a decent cook.

What is annoying is that I have had a number of injuries and health problems over the years and it would be nice if he would at least learn to microwave boxed food or even how to properly reheat stuff I have made ahead when I cannot do it. It has to be a sort of passive aggressive behavior on his part since he should be capable of doing simple cooking tasks.

He learned to boil eggs since for some reason I am spectacularly bad at that simple task. I either cook them until they explode in the pan or turn off the burner too soon and end up with soft boiled eggs. Even with a timer and directions, I manage to screw up boiled eggs - go figure. OTOH, hubby cooks them perfectly every time. But he loves boiled eggs while I only like them as deviled eggs or as egg salad - and I don't like the prep work for those so I never make them.

After 33 years of being together, we've worked the division of chores out but it is horrible to be laid up after an injury and not be able to count on anything other than take out to eat!

I try my best to make meals for my wife and she always lovingly tells me how good they are when I know otherwise, but I'll keep trying. She says I try too hard, bless her(your) heart.

30. The operative word here is NOODLE.
It makes it sound like those big, flat WET noodles that people used to use. He probably overcooked them.

If you're going to put broccoli in with pasta - add it for the last minute the pasta cooks, then drain it off together.
