How much do you pay a month for your cell phone plan?
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 07:06 PM by MrScorpio
I've got a Trac Fone. It's not like I need it as a life line, just for convenient short calls.

However, I'm thinking about signing up for a $9.95 a month value plan that sends me 50 minutes, which is just about how many minutes I use.

No contract and can cancel at anytime

Good idea or bad?

1. I guess it depends on how you use it
I have a "pay as you go" phone here in the UK, but I'm thinking of signing up for a plan. Some times, I pay nothing on it, because I'll be in the US for a month or so at a time, but calls and texts are more expensive on it when I'm here, and I do use it for international calls, which is pricey. So, I pay anywhere from $0 to $100 a month, I'd guess. Usually somewhere in the middle. It is my only phone though - no land line.

8. I had that deal back when I worked for Circuit City. Only it was $5 way back then.
One of the best things about that job.

Ugh.

16. HOLY SHIT!!!! We do $75/month for two phones.
I have nixed my daughter getting one, and texting will be off limits.

My company reimburses me $25 for the service.

5. About $79 a month, but I don't have a land line, and call my family
in Oregon quite a bit.

The $9.95 a month plan sounds good, if you don't use your cell much. But is that plan a nationwide plan or just a local one? You should check that out too, depending on where you make calls.

15. Here's the page
http://www.tracfone.com/autopay_enrollment/new_BP_Program.jsp?nextPage=new_BP_Program.jsp&task=autopay&AID=SAC2#

It's the same as with any Trac Fone minutess bought, National.

There a $5.99 protection plan that can be used only if I reach my service end date, which is useless for me because that date is in 2012.

19. Well, from what you describe, that looks pretty reasonable.
You would just need to keep your eye on your minutes. You have a land line too?

6. ugh I pay about $180/mo
well I take that back, one kid pays her bills so take off about $20-25 of that. This is for 5 phones, unlimited calls between, 5 other numbers in the plan with unlimited and unlimited texting on three or four of those (too lazy to look up exact figures)

Oh and one kid is my personal indentured servant for this and other reasons
the third may be getting cut off if he doesn't get a job or enter the servitude mode soon.

7. How much will you pay for any minutes over 50?
I pay $52/mo with tax, but that's for unlimited minutes, unlimited domestic long distance (can't imagine why I need that...) and all the bells and whistles like web access and picture messaging.

17. MetroPCS
The downside is that their coverage area outside of Northern California (oh, and Florida, 'cause it worked fine while I was at flvegan's) is TEH SUCK, so traveling to an area where my phone uses another provider's networks is expensive. Generally, if I know I'll be someplace where they don't have service, I bring along my crappy little prepaid phone, which I picked up for just those situations, and use that instead.

Oh, and no contract, which I prefer. I don't like being locked in should I find a better deal.

20. Ah, should have known.
If I ever start using over 800 minutes and decide I need web widgets I'll probably switch to Metro PCS and just keep a separate phone on Page Plus (Verizon network) for travel.

21. Personally I'd prefer a set monthly charge to buying minutes, for ease of budgeting.
I'd scale down my plan, but then I'd need a land line and it'd run me as much or more to have both.

11. About 40 bucks a month for AT&T
450 anytime minutes and unlimited nights and weekends.

I end up using only about 300 minutes a month but there is no cheaper plan and the pay as you go plans would end up costing for my needs.

12. You could get about 84 minutes for 10 bucks
with PagePlus, and if you used less, they would still be good for up to 3 months.

I buy the 80.00 block of minutes (1400 minutes @ 5.7 cents) and have been averaging 2+ months before I have to buy more.

14. $130 for 4 lines
1 each for me, the kids and the ex. Includes unlimited text, "pick 5" group for each line and free nights and weekend plus 700 any time minutes. We've never come close to running out of minutes.
