2. What always bugged me about that
"Cathy," I said, as we boarded the Greyhound in Pittsburgh,
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw (etc)"
It's only 300 miles or so from Pittsburgh to Saginaw -- what took him so long?
John
Do you live in Pittsburgh? Are you coming to FUNDAY?
It is now 111 days, 14 hours and 37 minutes to FUNDAY.

3. A bump and a request from those music lovers with CD burners
If you have any music (especially from the last year or two) that you'd like to get onto the FUNDAY RADIO music list, I'd sure love a PM. I never listen to the radio, so I have no idea what the big hits of the past few years are.
Remember, I'm buying all the beer and even providing the food. All you gotta do is get here.
John
FUNDAY FACT: There have been more than 1000 total attendees to the first nine FUNDAYs. We have never had a fight yet.
It is now 110 days, 23 hours and 39 minutes to FUNDAY X.

4. FunDay--you never know who you'll end up talking to!
I've met some amazing folks at FunDays past. Never had a bad time, and never left without being stuffed full of food and beverages. FunDay is probably the one party I'll travel THAT far to attend! John is the host with the most, and you'll never meet a more congenial group.

BE there or be square!

5. Davsand even got to drive Andy the Right WIng Republican's Camaro
Edited on Sun Feb-29-04 12:47 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
Last year.
Even Andy is on his best behavior for FUNDAY. I came into the house about 7 pm last year, and three DUers had Andy backed onto one end of the couch and were giving him the North Korean Interrogation routine.
Frankly, Andy was holding his own -- considering he was outnumbered three to one in the discussion and five or six to one at the party.
John
FUNDAY FACT: The Bus ("Social Embarrassment"), missing since FUNDAY IV (1998), should be here for the tenth anniversary party.
It is now 110 days, 23 hours and 14 minutes to FUNDAY.

6. I still think he let me drive because I asked if it was a V-8.
I flabbergasted him that I asked what size engine was in that car and then told him about my old Camaro with the V-8 in it. (I loved that car!) He kept on asking me if I didn't think big engines are bad because they are gas guzzlers...

The big turning point came when I explained that sometimes, bigger IS better!

Anyhow, you do have some good folks in your life, and I look forward to seeing them all.

9. We (including Andy) are looking forward to seeing you too
His Camaro is safely tucked away in his garage, awaiting the liberal application of your right foot in June.
John
FUNDAY FACT: For the first two years after Andy bought the Camaro (used), it carried a rainbow triangle on its rear bumper, courtesy of the gay gentleman who owned it previously.
None of us bothered to tell Andy what the triangle meant and it sure took him awhile to figure it out.
It is now 110 days, 22 hours and six minutes to FUNDAY.

10. He promised to take me fishing.
You can BET I'm not gonna let him forget that either. I'll grant you, I've had men forget other promises they made while drunk--but THAT is a sacred one.

11. Well, in Andy's case, he's drunk during most of his free time
If you and Kev can get up here a day or so early or stay a day or so late, I'm sure Andy'll get you out on the Tittabawassee.
John
FUNDAY FACT: Andy doesn't drink while he's fishing. He makes up for it when he comes over here for political discussions. Of course, he buys the beer -- so who are we to complain?
It is now 110 days, 21 hours and 53 minutes to FUNDAY.

19. Red Special II?
What happened to Red Special I?
John
I have some paperwork which pertains to the Red Special. Along with your zip code, I need to know if the other pertinent number is 13799 or 17399. Say "hi" to Lisa and Nikki for us.
John
FUNDAY FACT: Along with the other commonalities mentioned below, both Marty and I own busses. It ought to be an interesting sight at FUNDAY X this year. My neighbor is going to go berserk.
It is now 110 days, 22 hours and 36 minutes to FUNDAY.

8. I hold it in my yard
My house was built in 1877 and moved one block west to its current site in 1952. My family has lived here since 1961 and, in its 127-year history, the house has only been owned by two families -- ours and the Wylies.
John
FUNDAY FACT: The house was built when Rutherford B Hayes was President, and Hayes and I have the same birthday.

13. Thank you for our 111-day warning post.
A good idea to reserve that Saturday on the home calendar.

In fact I tried the new DU calendar option. I thought it might be a personal calendar, but, it might be a public one. Check it out. I don't know if my entry precludes you from editing your own event. Let me know.

I look forward to seeing you and meeting a few more attendees.

17. Thanks, Fest -- Carl (the other Republican) awaits your presence
Festivito and Carl have an ongoing political discussion that, of course, they can only hold during FUNDAY. Like Andy and I, I don't think either debater has moved the other from his base but, unlike Andy, I have my doubts whether Carl will vote for -- that person -- this coming November.
Carl also is our Senior Master of the Barbecue and one of the original BUSMEN (those who rode Social Embarrassment to the Grateful Dead shows in 1993).
John
FUNDAY FACT: With his father, Carl owns the FAST LANE DRIVE-THRU Party Store -- 1200 State Street in Saginaw, the one-stop shop for all your beer, wine, cigarettes, rolling papers and other essential party supplies. At FAST LANE, Carl exploits his workers and passes the savings on to you!!
That's FAST LANE DRIVE-THRU -- the official beer and rolling paper supplier to FUNDAY since 1995 and lead sponsor of FUNDAY RADIO.
Now back to our thread...

It is now 110 days, 22 hours and 50 minutes to FUNDAY.

18. Hi Marty -- well, yes. Yes I do.
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 01:19 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
I think my phone is still working. My Saginaw County property taxes (to the tune, with interest, of $974) were finally paid off this AM, so we can start budgeting for the soiree. Tenth Anniversary t-shirts will be a requirement.
Good to hear from you. Contact has been r-e-e-e-al sketchy of late. Everything okay down there?
John
FUNDAY FACT: Martin and I attended the same high school (Saginaw Arthur Hill), albeit 14 years apart. I was also his editor in college, and one of the very earliest BUS photos (ask to see it at FUNDAY) includes him and our mutual friend, R Glenn Moron (I bought the BUS while editor at Delta College).
It is now 110 days, 22 hours and 42 minutes to FUNDAY.

21. I'll try to give you a call this week
I hear ya about the property taxes thing. We just did ours too. Everything's OK down here. It was touch-and-go for the last two months of 2003, but things are getting better now. Lisa's teaching at Mott CC now and I got a raise in our contract, so things are looking up.

I'll try to think of some t-shirt designs based on the model you suggested before.

22. Wow!! Mott CC is like --what? -- a sixty-mile one-way commute for her?
If you're planning on swinging through Saginaw in the near future, I'll hold on to the paperwork for you. It's one of those things I should probably discuss with you. Glad to hear things are better -- I'll be talking to Horton in GR re: graphics and the flier soon and to Chip about both FUNDAY RADIO (you should send me a few tunes suitable for a party) and the website, which will be unveiled shortly.
John
You might want to chat with Chip, too, as you've made all but one or two FUNDAYS. He needs text for the site, and nobody does verbosity quite like yourself (that's a virtue coming from a former editor in dire need of text). I'm shipping his e-mail addy through DU this afternoon.
It is now 109 days, 22 hours and 31 minutes to FUNDAY.
