Poll question: BEST #1 HIT of the EARLY 1970s? (Part 1)
Now that I've spent the last several days regaling you with bad memories of the '70s, what do you say we spend the next few days remembering some of the decade's better chart-toppers?

Think of this series of polls as the antidote to Debby Boone! :)

1. Brown Sugar, the rest are nearly as bad as the "Worst" polls.
The Stones Rule.

2. If you think Sly & The Family Stone and the Temptations are almost as...

...bad as Debby Boone, then you have no business voting in these polls!

6. Thanks

I like all those songs, except LOL... I've never heard that Stones song ... and it's getting the most votes. Have no idea how it goes.

I never was big into rock, but I like the other Stones songs I know like "Painted Black."

8. Yes, but not until 1973.

Look for "Love Train" in an upcoming poll!

10. How about The O'Jays
before they became popular?

Anyone ever hear "I'll be Sweeter Tomorrow (than I was Yesterday)?

9. A lot of them

Their biggest crossvoer hit was probably "Love Train," but I like their other stuff better - their slow stuff.

(one edit) you beat me to it.

(second edit) in response to post 10: I love that song. Have you ever heard "Brandy" - that's my favorite by them - "Stairway to Heaven" is incredible, too.

12. It wasn't a #1 hit. "Layla" peaked at #10, and that wasn't until 1972.

13. A lot of good ones there, but still some I hated.
It was a tough vote, but I went for Brown Sugar. (Rock has always been my preference.) But I also loved War, and the Joplin and Beatles songs. Someone should do a cover of War these days; it would be highly appropriate.

17. Because there are only ten options per poll...

...and I wanted to squeeze in as many choices as I could!
