Best concert movie ever (nominations)
It'll be a poll eventually, but if I did one now it would just have 10 slots of Stop Making Sense. Honorable mentions go out to Rust Never Sleeps and Woodstock. Whadda you think?

1. The Song Remains The Same - Led Zeppelin
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 03:28 PM by Intelsucks
I doubt it's the best ever, but it's all I can think of right now. I haven't seen it in over 10 years.

2. "Year Of The Horse"...
"Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones" (much better than "Gimme Shelter")

"Stop Making Sense" is pretty damn good, though...

15. Thanks, cool. Was wondering if anyone remembered that one.
I remember coming out of the theater totally entertained and blown away by the talent and the soulfulness.

8. "The Unheard Music" starring X
X... the original LA "punk" band featuring John Doe, Exene, Billy Zoom & DJ Bonebreak.

It's really hard to find, but it's great. It combines concert footage, documentary footage, studio recording sessions, etc. In that respect, it's a little like "Rattle and Hum."

Maybe that other stuff disqualifies it from this little vote, but there it is. Check it out if you can.

13. Prediction: Woodstock is going to win.
I'll certainly vote for it. It's a perfect movie IMO.

Is Spinal Tap a contender? Technically it's a concert movie.

Not really a concert movie (more of a documentary) but it is a must see for any bluegrass fan.

16. "Cocksucker Blues" - The Rolling Stones
;)

Just try and find it.

Rust Never Sleeps is my favorite. I have a copy of the Smiths performance on the German rock concert program Rock Palast that I'm quite fond of. Punk Rock Movie, the Don Letts film shot on a Super-8 is a good mix of bands from 1976-1978. Stop Making Sense also gets my vote, as does Year of the Horse.

20. Last Waltz, Gimme Shelter
Last Waltz hands down.

However, Gimme Shelter is a great concert movie in that it shows how things can go so wrong. It is like watching a train wreck. The Stones were good even when things were falling apart around them.

27. There's one that I'm dying to see
called The MC5: A True Testimonial. Apparently it's won awards in
Europe at film festivals, but has never been shown in America! Rob
Tyner's wife was a filmmaker, and she followed them around and shot
reels and reels of film. They took the best and edited it together to make this movie. You KNOW it kicks out the jams!
