4. They are a parody ala Spinal Tap aren't they?????

Please for the love of god someone tell me they are a parody of a 70's Rock band and not the latest corporate pop up band from Britain.

The Horror..... The Horror...

5. You must not have ever been around in the late 70's, early 80's
This is the way Rock WAS. Back in those days, Rockers (especially of the Brit variety) tried to outdo each other with antics such as these, bigger hair, goofy costumes and more outlandish guitar riffs.

Look at any number of bands from that era (Slade, Iron Maiden and Motorhead all come to mind) and you'll see what I mean. Spinal Tap was a parody of that whole scene, and although it was a great movie, it sent this kind of mentality underground, for fear it was the butt of everyones jokes.

Thank God it's Back! I'm sick of self obsessed whiners. I mean, when Nirvana did it it was new, but every band thinks theyre Kurt Cobain these days.

2. I love em - totally retro!
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 03:32 PM by absyntheNsugar
Peter Frampton meets Aerosmith meets Kiss meets Cheap Trick meets The Knack

On edit: I love this whole Rock God thing! It's about time we have straight ahead Rock God ROck and Roll!

ON EDIT YET AGAIN:

"STAND AND DELIVER

IT WOULD have been too much to expect The Darkness to ink their record deal in anything less than attention-grabbing style.

Ever the comedians, guitarists Justin and Dan Hawkins, bassist Frankie Poullain and drummer Ed Graham turned up to collect their over-sized cheque from Mushroom Records dressed as 18th century noblemen.

"In The Darkness' typical flamboyant style, they came dressed up and used quills to sign their contract because they could," says the band's spokesman. The cheque was made out for three pints of lager and a vodka, lime and soda, and was warmly received by the band, who celebrated afterwards with just that."

3. I love 'em!
It's about time people started rocking again. I've had to put up with sullen commercial folk-rock and robot sex music and dance crap and commercial hip hop for too damn long. ROCK AND FUCKING ROLL!!!

Rick referred to Charlie and Eddie as the Darkness brothers because they were a dark chocolate skinned color.

11. Here's a review from across the pond.

Thanks LPFF Yes fromage all the way!

Matt Swindon UK:
Bought this album on recommendation as a colleague was raving about it. OMG the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. The music is good enough, but boy this guy can't sing. It's more like Spinal Tap meets Zippy with his balls chopped off.
IMO one hit wonders. 3/10:

Many people are regarding the whole thing as a colossal joke, but the debate about whether The Darkness are some sort of freak accident or a cynical attempt to steal every worthy riff from metal’s thunderous vaults is pretty immaterial. If so many of metal’s pioneers hadn’t died unseemly deaths, then The Darkness wouldn’t exist, but they did - so someone had to resurrect the spirit of the 12-year-old Def Leppard fan and pump him back into hormonal life. The irony being that the same people who are slagging them off for their unashamed plundering would be paying through the nose for customised T-shirts with their logo on if they’d made this record 20 years ago.

( Yeah right dream on maybe they can back up Judas Priest on this years OzzFest tour.) What do you mean they didn't make the second stage. No way!

Just because it’s essentially heavy-metal karaoke, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy it. Play The Darkness on 11.

Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 09:39 PM by LastKnight
it took awhile for them to grow on me... but after a bit, i actuially like their stuff... im tired of musicians taking themselves too serious anyway, afterall, it is just entertainment. that and thier actuially tallented as apposed to alot of groups these days who cant play thier insturments.

- than have to suffer thru any eminem song once a week.

Maybe these guys should hang out with the White Stripes or Jet or Foo Fighters - imagine the sound of that fusion.

I've also heard the Christmas song before. Gee, these guys aren't trying too hard to be Queen, are they? LOL Sorry, but this dude doesn't have a voice anywhere near Freddie Mercury's.

Every time I've heard their music, the DJ has said that everyone who's heard them either loves them or hates them, there's no in-between. But I guess I'm an exception to that 'rule', because I'm not sure what I think of them. I'm just kind of shaking my head and saying hmmmmm.

Edited to ad: I'm glad someone is bring back this kind of rock, rock for fun, but I'm not sure if these are the guys to do it. The singer's voice annoys me to no end every time he breaks into falsetto, which is quite frequently. I just glanced at their bio, and it turns out they found their singer when he was performing "Bohemian Rhapsody" at a kareoke night in some bar. It figures. I guess I was right that they're trying to be Queen.

You have to check out the video for "Love Is Only a Feeling" on the same site. I laughed so hard, and I pictured Michael McKean and Christopher Guest cracking up as well.

22. "The Darkness put Spinal Tap to shame"
That's the point.

The moral of the story is...this is what happens when you live in Lowestoft for too long.

That said, there is no point in taking them too seriously.

I loved the fact that they're supposed to have dragged all that stuff up with them, and there's no source of power anywhere in sight. Are they deliberately trying to look stooopid?
