I finished this painting this morning and first shared it via PM with a young DU artist whom I very much respect. Now I'm sharin' it with the resta y'all. Enjoy! :hi:

Mixed media on archival paper
Materials: Handmade Japanese paper, lacquer-based ink, comics section from a 1941 edition of a Nebraska newspaper, Biblical passage (Genesis 3:1-21), handmade Italian paper, vintage photos hand-transferred using original technique, acrylic paint, mica powder, oil paint.

Nice painting, in all seriousness. Excellent use of color and composition, but temporally inaccurate as they didn't clothe up their fun parts until after they ate the apple pie that mom baked with pride and left on the treesill to cool... back then they didn't have windowsills...

In fact, the night I brought him home I slept on the couch to keep a better eye on him. I got up to go to the biffy and when I came back, he had not only stolen my sandwich that I thought was carefully hidden, but he was sprawled across the couch with his head on my pillow!

He gave me a serious look like, "Sorry, you move, you lose." :rofl:

'Cept for squirt cheese. They practically stampede the house to get to me if I have some. And tuna. I always drain the tuna juice into a bowl for them.

Otherwise, the cats occasionally sniff my dinner, then turn up their noses and walk away like I am gauche or something. :eyes:

Thanks for your kind words. The piece has about 10 or 11 layers, each sort of transluscent in its own right, and I think that adds a certain mystery. On the other hand, I had to stop with this painting because I was afraid it'd get to thick to fit behind the mat. :rofl:

I've been great - I just got home from spending 5 months in the UK, actually. It was WONDERFUL. I thought about you and CMW a few times, actually - thought about meandering over to Switzerland for a side trip. The actual collage/painting process took about a week for a piece this size, but I work on more than one at a time and I don't keep track of the preparations like applying gesso to the substrate, waiting for it to dry, sanding the gesso, etc. I usually just prepare a bunch of paper, canvas and wood all at once so that I have a stockpile of substrata to work with. Seems like it saves time, but I dunno that for sure. :rofl:

How did the Swiss react to Obama, I read something this morning that they are nervous the new administration may want to shed light on bank accounts. The Germans can't stop talking about it, 6 days later! Every paper has something about the Obamas, it's so funny. I'm lovin' it.

I haven't started driving escort just yet. I'm still gathering stuff. I had no idea that there were so many required items.
I could have purchased a complete start-up package for the measly sum of $2300.oo :wow: But I decided to save a bit by buying a used light bar for $150 instead of a new one for $900. I'm doing business with a local sign painter instead of going with the package. But I've given up looking for odds and ends. :shrug: Tomorrow I'll be placing an order for a stop sign on a long popsicle stick, a reflective N Y State vest patch and other odds and ends from the guys who wanted a bundle for the whole package.

My target starting date is sometime before Thanksgiving. I'll be stopping by local companies with my business cards as soon as I'm ready to roll.

Sometimes the creative vibe takes over to a point where it's like someone/something else is making my work; feeling proud of it feels weird, like taking credit for something I don't really remember the details of doing. Difficult to explain, but I do like it when my work makes other people think or feel. :)
