I was given a square dish, made of wood.

There is no hanging device, on the bottom/back, for decor.

In the bottom of the dish is a clay tile with words on it.

It says;

"Along with your rolls;
Heat up this tile,
And they'll stay hot
A good long while."

But... the tile is glued to the bottom of the dish!! :rofl:

How do I heat it up without burning down my house?

A true "house warming' gift! :rofl:

3. If you put it on the stove, the tile should be fine.

It takes a lot more than 500 degrees to melt tiles.

4. You microwave it.
I've seen those before...you stick it in the microwave for about 30 seconds and the tile gets hot. You put your rolls/bread (fresh out of the over) on top of the tile and a towel/cloth napkin over that to trap the heat in and it keeps your rolls warm.

Or you can put pre-baked rolls in the bowl and nuke the whole shebang...the tile acts to radiate heat in either case.

9. As long as it's not finished/varnished.
I'm pretty sure you can microwave unfinished wood. (Honestly, I've never tried either...I stared at one of these in a B,B and B one day until I figured it out.) The message painted-on might be a problem if it's on a food-contact surface.

I wouldn't microwave anything varnished as it would probably bleed petro-derivatives.

10. It doesn't look varnished but I also wondered about the paint for the lettering.
Maybe I'll just display it, when they are here for a visit. ;)

Thanks, Chan790! :hi: (Besides, I rarely make bread or rolls anymore.)
