I think digital cameras are going to ruin nightlife
Back in my day we didn't normally produce a great deal of photographic evidence of our being disgracefully drunk. Not so anymore. Between Halloween and this election, I've seen hundreds of pictures of various friends and colleagues all fucked up. And it's not like one picture either. Someone with a digital camera is likely to take 40-60 pictures over the course of an evening out. It's as though a generation has arisen where peers become an unwitting surveillance unit. The KGB wishes it had had this back in the day.

8. You know that I'd use it responsibly.
But then again, you're the one who taught me not to create evidence of my crimes for fun

3. I thank god every day.
They didn't have digital cameras when I was a teenager. (Or cell phones for that matter.)

4. I take my digital camera along a lot, but I know when I'm not qualified to take pictures.
I.E., when I can't stand up straight any more. I save those sorts of pictures, but I never post them on-line - not so much for myself, but for my friends. I don't want to get anybody in trouble because I was having fun being a shutterbug.

Besides, when I'm THAT drunk, all I want to do is hang out, laugh, watch some TV, and maybe play video games.

7. But howabout
how else can we witness the petit bourgeois continue to fiddle away their disposable income on cheap booze and drunken asshattery while the proletariat continues to burn? Why should people hide the fact they get disgracefully drunk anyways? Why not flaunt it and agree with the photographers to collaborate and make some money on a paysite, perhaps? Lotsa people in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union make money this way nowadays.

9. Because the reality is that we are not nearly as cool when drunk as we feel at the time
Documentation just robs us of the fantasy that we act like a rockstar and reveals to us that we just act like a fool. This robs us of our treasured fantasies.

11. well said
and I agree with you. I am most unphotogenic although I would love to get on a stage and make an ass of myself as long as I made some people laugh. But I'm afraid I would screw up and even if I didn't I would leave a bad impression and people would think I'm pathetic.

12. Cell phones have fucked stuff up too. Teenagers use them so strangely.

A friend and I were kicking it one night watching TV. My buddy's neighbor knocks on the door. She had just moved out of her parents' house a couple hundred miles away and some of her friends were there to do some partying and if we cared to join them that would be cool. So we go over there and there are empty bottles of captain morgans all over the counter. This girl couldn't have been more than 19. We sit at the table with them and have a couple beers. We start playing some gin rummy and discussing a possible drinking game. Eventually we switch to the drinking game. After the drinking game one of the girls mentions some friends who are not there and decides to call them. Now, being of an older generation, I use the phone to call people and invite them over usually and return to my activity. Little did I know that among this group, what you do is call people and talk to them while doing the activities. Eventually it got to be so that the cell phones were like extra people in the room who just happen to not be physically present and we continued playing cards and talking to people in and out of the room.

13. That is weird.,
I've never seen that before. Mind you I don't go out much, but none of my friends seem to do anything like that.
