Bristol Caverns - some pictures

Yesterday Deb took me to see the caves at Bristol Caverns. They are magnificent. I managed to get some good pictures.

This was taken walking up to the cave entrance. We didn't know at first, but we were standing directly above the cave. The roof was about 20 feet beneath our feet.



This is another entrance to the cave. They started to develop it but abandoned the effort years ago when it became clear that it wasn't going to be worth the cost. If you look closely you can just see the top of a wooden door which is always closed:



We walked this path on the way back from the cave:

The rock is primarily limestone, with many stalactites and stalagmites and other formations:

21. Putting that on my list. You ought to take a trip to Cumberland Caverns

in McMinnville TN, or Mammoth Cave in KY while you are Stateside if you have time.

It was very cool. Actually, it was literally cool - when we left the cave and came back to the surface, it felt like walking out of an air conditioned building. The tour guide said that the cave stays cool in summer and warm in the winter - basically the temperature in there does not vary very much.
