So I'm engaged.

Her name is Cailen, and we're aiming for a wedding during the Columbus Day weekend next October.

How'd I do it, you ask?

Well.

Two Tuesdays ago was our two-year anniversary, so I told her I was taking her out to dinner. I rented a limosine to take us to the Fairmont Copley Hotel, where we had reservations at the Oak Room restaurant:



The bottle of Far Niente I ordered was chilled and waiting at our table per my request. We ordered, and as we were waiting, I presented her with a gold necklace. Inside the pendant on the necklace was the diamond my grandfather gave to my grandmother when he proposed to her 80 years ago. About 20 years ago, my grandfather bought her a bigger, crazier stone for their anniversary, so my grandmother took that first stone, had it put into a pendant, and gave it to my mother. My mother wore that stone for twenty years before giving it to me, so I could give it to Cailen.

I told her all this and asked for her hand. She said yes. :)

We spent the next day picking out a ring setting for the stone, and it should be done and ready for finger placement sometime next week.

The pebbles are the other things in life that matter, but on a smaller scale. The pebbles represent things like your job, your house, your car.
The sand is everything else, the small stuff. If you put the sand or the pebbles into the jar first, there is no room for the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your energy and time on the small stuff, material things, you will never have room for the things that are truly most important. Pay attention to the things that are critical in your life. Play with your children. Take your partner out dancing. Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter.
