How do I stop a Paypal payment?
I bought a stereo off ebay, and I haven't received the item. The seller emailed me and told me they'd send out the stereo on Wednesday (I bought the thing on Saturday) and so far, I haven't heard anything. So I called the guy (his number was on the invoice) and when I asked about the item, he hung up on me.

I don't wanna get screwed out of my money for an ebay purchase. What do I do?

I am very concerned here. I've never had a bad e-bay experience. Ever.

8. I'm no expert, but I don't think that'll solve the problem.
Didn't help the last time I did it.

4. This is Thursday. If it was sent out on Wed., why do you think you should have it by now?
A delay in sending (from Sat. to Wed.) is not at all unusual.

7. If you've given it a reasonable time for shipment...
...and you're convinced you've been ripped off, then go into your PayPal account and file an "item not received" dispute. Look for their help files, they will talk you through it. PayPal is pretty good about protecting both buyer and seller, where necessary. The PayPal dispute will (should) get you your money back if it's decided in your favor (seller has to prove he sent the item), and you can also file an "item not received" notice with Ebay.

If you bought the item Saturday, though, and it was mailed on Wednesday (not an unreasonable delay, especially for high-volume sellers), you wouldn't realistically have it until sometime next week - so give it at least that long.

9. Pay Pal was very unresponsive to me
"Very?" Totally unresponsive = unsatisfactory customer service. I had somehow made a duplicate payment to a vendor (an online radio show I voluntarily paid every six months) and it was due to a glitch in the website so they put me in as two different people paying simultaneously instead of crediting my account.

Pay Pal refused to answer me period. I had "thought" they were a safer way to do online business, but since then I switched to using only credit card payments, and boycot any payment method that requires Pay Pal, at least if they require I use my pay pal account to pay.

American Express will take any complaint seriously and follow up on it for you. I have never had them refuse to help me or be unable to help me, not that I have had to very often -- credit cards seem alot more secure a way to do business online than other ways.

10. It's thursday, he shipped it wednesday, and you're calling to find out where it is?
I'd have yelled a few choice words before hanging up if you were my buyer. Keep your pants on, shipping isn't instantaneous. Y

ou have 30 days to file with paypal, if your item really doesn't show, but depending on the shipping method (I'm assuming a stereo is going UPS ground?) you probably shouldn't even expect it for a week from the ship date. If you're nervous about the whole thing, ask your seller for a tracking number, if the shipping method you chose has one.

11. If you paid with a credit card through Paypal you may be able to question through there too.
Though I can say on the credit card end it can get ugly. Some credit card companies won't allow Paypal disputes because they view the method of payment as a Paypal one and treat the payment to Paypal just as a pseudo-cash advance (you're being billed like a purchase and financed like a purchase but for dispute purposes they treat it as cash). Others will go to bat for you to some extent. My simple advice is this: communicate, communicate, communicate. Email is good, you have an audit trail then.

If the seller said he sent it Wednesday and today is Thursday we need to give it a bit more time, but maybe ask the seller for a tracking number. If a tracking number can be supplied then it's a positive sign and it gives you a way to track the package process. If there's no answer and no tracking number then I'd say by next Friday file a dispute with Paypal. Now if you paid with a credit card, and you have followed and are following the Paypal dispute process and you get a bill from your credit card company for the charge you then have a right to dispute the charge. (you only have the legal right to dispute credit card charges from the day they're billed you to 60 days after the statement comes out with those charges on). If you trust Paypal's process and don't mind carrying the charge or paying for it (even though you're expecting/going to get a credit for it) then it'd be safe to not dispute the charge with the credit card company that month, you can wait a month - but don't wait more than 60 days otherwise you lose your rights to dispute with your credit card company.

You can call Paypal, they have a phone number (it's now toll free!):

1-888-221-1161

4:00 AM PST to 10:00 PM PST Monday through Friday
6:00 AM PST to 8:00 PM PST Saturday and Sunday

Hope this helps, Mark.

12. just out of curiosity....is this your first eBay transaction?
You may not know that many sellers ship once or twice a week on items they have to take to the post office or UPS.

I'd give it until next Wednesday (a week from when he said he would send it) before beginning to wonder.

And yes, you should get a tracking number. Did you have the item insured?

13. "I don't wanna get screwed out of my money for an ebay purchase. What do I do? " relax...
you bought it on saturday, seller said it would be shipped on wednesday, today is thursday.

were the terms of shipment overnight? i seriously doubt it.

chill. your stereo will arrive within the week. if not, paypal will take care of you.

you do not seem to be the kind of person that should be doing deals on ebay. maybe craigslist or a local thrift shop is more your style.
