I fixed my own computer problem!!!
Am I turning into a geek?

For three days I haven't been able to send and receive email through Outlook but I could get my mail by going to webmail. I finally called Cox to see if it was their problem and of course they said it was an Outlook problem. So I went to microsucks knowledge base and voila! Eventually, I found microsucks blaming Symantec/Norton. It was a problem with Norton's Internet Security -- I have an old version which I'd never deleted and never updated. I keep the antivirus updated, but blew off the Internet Security program. I deleted the program and now..... I've got mail!

Wow. I am so excited about this.....

4. A great feeling, innit?
My Mac was acting up at work--tons of native OSX programs crashing. Of course, since I'm a writer, our IT dept. doesn't exactly respond quickly--more like geologic time. So, I looked at the crash logs and realized that Helvetica wasn't loading. It turned out the whole font family was turned off in Suitcase, so I turned it on manually, and, voila, everything works smooth as silk! I called IT back and told them not to bother. As I said, a great feeling!

And, no, you're not a geek. You're just master of your domain!

13. I might get an argument over this but
...as a Computer Tech and Network engineer, Norton is ....um..
how can I put this?....On my Shit list...I seen so many computers
mis-configured by Norton that I've developed an extreme aversion to their products.

PS: Thumbs up for fixing your computer!

14. What Norton product is on your list?
Is it the anti virus or one of the others? NAV has been good to me so just wondering if I should be wary. Do you use McAfee?

17. Mainly their Anti-Virus Stuff
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 09:41 PM by Radicalliberal
I've fixed about 7-8 computers in the past month that were seriously
screwed up by Norton Anti-Virus.

I use AVG Free Edition...It's small, works great, and the updates are free.
It can be found here: www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php
