8. Look, bucko...

First of all, I'm really surprised to be attacked for this post.
What the fuck?
Yes, it looks real to me.
There's no break in the video that I can see.
A plane lands, barely, LUCKILY, with a wing missing.
It doesn't make sense to me, but I've seen weirder.
Much weirder.
Ah fuck it.
Just thought it was interesting.
Never mind.

5. It goes off frame an awful lot just before the fun begins
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 05:52 PM by DS1
It simply doesn't handle like a plane of any weight should, in my opinion. It looks like an RC plane switched in with CGI, then it goes off frame after the landing, where they switched back a plane with a missing wing.

To me it's about as believable as this

12. I'm not saying it's strictly impossible
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 07:40 PM by DS1
I know those stunt planes have a LOT of power, enough power to fly sideways like that. Still, I'm going to not believe it until I see it from a different angle.

Don't take it so personally :)

and IF it's true, that pilot will go down in history as the greatest pilot ever. I expect to see it in the news. Even the "news of the odd", very soon. If it's vetted, I'll post a formal apology to you.

further edit: with computing power growing so much, so fast, it doesn't take much more than experience with the 3D software to camera-match computer-generated content with real content. But again, it's not impossible, except probably for the wheel carriage collapsing from such a hard left landing on the left side, to land a plane like that. I've seen stunt pilots fly sideways like that, but with both wings.

10. The "going off frame" is to be expected.
An amateur with a video camera tracking a fast moving object in the sky, while he's zoomed in? I'm surprised it stayed in frame as much as it did.

16. ACtually, the engine in that plane is extremely powerful, and it is possible to hang from the prop..
That takes an exceptional pilot to do that. If it's a fake, that's still an incredible landing, one wing, two wings, whatever.

21. It also, at the landing, looks very computer generated.
It looks real just until it comes into landing, and then it has a Toy Story computer animated kind of quality to it.

IMO.

17. Reported fake here

Of course, that's just some other random guys on the internet, but the arguments are fairly persuasive. I have no horse in this race; I don't have that kind of eye. (Can't even follow the action in football games anymore.:))

19. Looks like an RC until it's on the ground.
Here's an RC dude landing a plane with one wing.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaXMrFh3n7M&feature=related

Watch the OP video. The plane at first is real, but just before the wing breaks off, the plane goes off screen, then comes on and breaks apart. When it lands, the plane is in perfect focus as it flies over the runway and past the control tower, then just after it hits it goes completely blurry, bounces, then comes back into focus, as a real plane. Why would it go out of focus then? The camera had it perfectly for the whole approach, then suddenly looses it, even though it was the same distance as before? I think between the wing breaking off and the touchdown was an RC plane, and they used the blurry shot to cut a real plane back in.

The video comes from an advertising site for the clothing line the plane is advertising, too. Makes it more suspicious. A landing like that would be on CNN, not some viral advertising site.

Just my impression. I have about 12 hours of flying time, and zero hours of video editing experience, so I know nothing at all. But still I offer an opinion. Isn't the Internets a great thing?

20. Gotta agree with you, even though I am no expert.
The bounce the plane makes when it touches down looks like a toy, not a real plane. It bounces back up, with no flexing of the landing gear or anything.

Oh just watched it again - even more telling? Watch the point on the tail that touches down in GRASS when the plain lands. NO dirt is thrown up, NO grass, NOTHING.

FAKE.
