HA! I got into it today with a frat boy homophobe
If they want a culture war...bring it on, a-holes...

so this is what happened. I was sitting on a bench outside eating my lunch on break today when about six college boys came out of an nearby restaurant.

I was minding my biz, reading the paper, and they kept saying "bitch" this and "bitch" that and I just ignored them.

Then they sort of kept coming closer to me and quoting Dave Chapell (and that's irony, since they are just the kind of privledged whites he constantly derides (Enron vs. crack dealer justice, anyone?)

so then one of them says, "yeah, we're gonna take this liberal town and MAKE it conservative."

well, I had heard enough of their b.s so I looked up and said, "you don't have to be here."

He got a sneer on his face and said, "You must be a lesbian."

I said, "No, I'm the mother of two. But obviously you are a motherf**ker."

One of this friends laughed. They started to cross the street to get into their illegally parked SUV. The guy said, "You shouldn't call someone a m-fer" ..I just stared at him.

He called out, "you should see "The Passion." I just looked at him. He said, "How old are your daughters?"

So I stood up and stretched out my arms and yelled, "Do you want to go a round, punk?"

They got in the SUV and pulled up where I was sitting. The guy started cursing at me, so I stood up and said,

"Let me get your license plate number."

He said, "I didn't do anything!"

I was so furious, I swear that I was ready to smack him. He's not from my city (a college town), I could tell my his car license (which I didn't actually try to write down...

But I could not believe this little twerp.

I am so sick of the reich wing, and I AM NOT GOING TO TAKE THEIR BULLSHIT ANYMORE.

2. I think I shocked him.
I sort of shocked myself, too...

but it's sort of hard to believe that someone is so stupid that he thinks that anyone who is liberal is a lesbian...or else he thought it would insult me...either way, he's an a-hole.

8. no, this was in the midwest.
and funny thing is, my town has made an effort to attract g-l tourism...we're this little liberal oasis of a college town in the midst of people like that kid.

I should have asked him what he was studying after he "accused me" of being a lesbian because I like my liberal town just fine, thank you...I would have loved to be able to tell him that my ex was his professor, and there goes your grade...

I wouldn't actually do that, but boy I've thought of lots of good lines since lunch...

I wish I had had the presence of mind to say, when he said he didn't do anything when I said I was getting his license number "My 200 lb, 6ft. 5 ex-linebacker husband will want to know how to find you..."

Unfortunately, that's probably the only language that he (the frat boy) understands. (Former Midwest resident here - Missouri).

13. To tell the truth
I'm ready to get the hell out of this country because I'm so sick of the Tali-born-agains and their selfish pawns.

but I'm stuck here, at least for now.

Funny thing, too, though is that this is considered the "best" place to live in my state BECAUSE it's a liberal college town with lots of interesting people from diff. places and with a normally laid back sort of attitude..well, normallly, sort of...

Conservative towns, as Richard Florida has noted, are hemmoraghing jobs because people want to live in places like my town (except with a better job market...)

17. the thing is...
this is a pretty small town, so it's not unlikely that I'll see him again!

but I really couldn't believe that he thought it was a good thing to

1. say, in front of someone who obviously lives in the town that he is only visiting for a few years that he and his "posse" (ha) are going to MAKE, and he said it just like that..MAKE my town conservative.

2. then, when a "native" of the town tells him that no one is forcing him to live in "liberalville," he makes a personal comment that was obviously meant, by him, to be a slur.

3. and then, when someone stands up to these actions, he retreats to a "holier than thou" remark about a bloodsoaked pre-Vatican II piece of hate propaganda of a movie as something good for me, since I used an obscenity to describe him after he first disparaged the place where I live, and then had the nerve to try to label me as "aberrant" (in his view) because I take issue with his "threat" to the identity of my town.

I'd like to find his momma and ask her what kind of mother would raise a child who would be so rude.

(yes, I was really rude, too...but as I said, they almost seemed like they were trying to get a rise out of me. I guess it was because I was reading that liberal New York Times...)

19. Question, aren't "townie" police kinda indifferent, if not hostile to
the "temporary population" (cutters - "Breaking Away")

but a bit more, shall we say, heavy-handed when a "temp citizen" does some damage to a "townie"?

(Unless your name happens to be Bush, then you get a slap on the wrist for stealing a wreath . . .)

Sounds like they were talking just to puff themselves up in front of each other. It used to be that college was for people with brains; apparently not anymore. Maybe making a fool out of the hormonally impaired kids will teach them a lesson the second time.

18. this was the second time this week...in two days, actually
that a conservative asshole had rubbed me the wrong way.

the first one was an old, old man who gives my boss "investment" advice.

My boss and I were talking while we were working and they guys walks in and starts talking about investing with her while I was there working parallel with her.

So the guy says...do you know how much oil is a gallon now?..and my boss says..about $30.? And he says...and can you imagine...$100.?

So I said, oh, do you know about peak oil?

And they guy cuts me a look...it was weird...and very curtly said, "Yes."

So I said, what do you think about the dollar? And he just ignored me.

So I waited a second and said, so, what do you think about the dollar?

And he looked over at me as if to say...who are you to speak before spoken to to an retired investment banker like me?

So when he was leaving, I said, "Thanks for your polite reply."

My boss noticed what he did and also said it was weird...his rudeness was REALLY noticeable.

When he comes back in to where I work, I'm going to walk away and not talk to him or help him in anyway (this is an independent bookstore).

It can work both ways, and I will not suffer rich asshole fools, no matter how important they believe themselves to be.

20. I've told this tale before, but I think it bears repeating

This incident happened at the driving job I had in 1998 (not the same one I have now).

One of the other drivers was a 40-year-old guy named Bob, a total freeper geek. Read the "New York Post," spent his time on the road tuned into right-wing talk radio.... You know the type!

Now, as you may recall, 1998 was the year of all Monica Lewinsky, all the time. And Bob had this annoying habit of getting in the face of anyone who didn't immediately tell him to fuck off, and start voicing his Limbaugh-inspired political and social opinions.

One night, he came up to me one night and said, "Looks like the Senate's finally going to impeach Clinton. I hope they nail him!"

I looked Bob in the face. "You are such an asshole."

His jaw pretty much hit the floor. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, our elected representatives should concentrate on the important work of running this country and let two consenting adults do whatever the fuck they want."

"But it was in Oval Office!"

"I don't give a fuck if they did it on the subway and charged people to watch. Clinton and Lewinsky are legal adults who had every right to sleep with each other if they chose to. End of story!"

"Well," Bob stammered, "Clinton's an idiot; he should learn to keep it in his pants."

To which I retorted, "Well, that's easy to say when no woman will come within 20 feet of you!"

The wounded-dog look on Bob's dorky face almost made me feel sorry for him. Almost.

He avoided me after that!

25. obviously he was inspired by the religious message from Mel
to want to try to inflict himself and his asshole opinions on a disgusting "lesbian" who was trying to have a relaxing lunch break.

we should start a list of "snappy comebacks."

You must be a lesbian...

- Oh, did you see me with your mother last night?

-She regrets that one time with your dad, she told me..

-now I see why...

29. usually ignore people like that
but every now and then you have to stick it to them... and let them know it's not okay. Sometimes bullies ( and that is really what they are) need a dose of what they hand out. And what is funny is that they are so shocked when someone stands up to them! I too am sick of people who fail to think and then want to inflict their ignorance on everyone.
