This song is all about YES - what is your favorite songs by Yes?
I've heard "All Good People" on the radio twice in less than 1 day - something really good is about to happen to me but I'm worried it's the Phillies winning and not enough mojo for Barack to win

I love YES - what's your favorite YES song?

27. My brother played that song a thousand times a day!
In and around the lakes....mountains come out of the sky and they stand there!

Good song.

5. I love that song - so charming and mesmerizing
I'm listening to Starship Troopers which absolutely rules. I still get goosebumps at the finale of the song.

7. Not a big fan, but I can say they helped me appreciate music a lot more.
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 11:53 AM by Forkboy
In my high school music class we spent a month breaking their songs down into segments. Whenever the song structure changed we'd mark it with a letter, so it would look something like this...

A-B-A-B-C-D-A-E-A-B-F and so on.

Up until that point I was still into fairly simple music with basic song structures. Studying Yes made me realize that music can follow different paths and not just a basic A-B-A-B-C-A-B structure. It's one of the main reasons why I love so many non formulaic bands now.

So, even though I'm not really a fan, I owe a ton of my musical appreciation to them as much as any other band. For that I'll always be grateful to them...and my music teacher. :)

11. "Seen All Good People," I guess.
Hard to argue with "Roundabout," though. I also give much love to Steve Howe's solos: "Clap" and "Mood for a Day."

But that was my only complaint about a fantastic show.

13. Long Distance Runaround
Long distance runaround
Long time waiting to feel the sound
I still remember the dream there
I still remember the time you said goodbye
Did we really tell lies
Letting in the sunshine
Did we really count to one hundrer

Cold summer listening
Hot colour melting the anger to stone
I still remember the dream there
I still remember the time you said goodbye
Did we really tell lies
Did we really count to one hundred

Looking for the sunshine

15. I would like to give props to their most recent studio album first of all.
There are two songs on Magnification which I absolutely love. When I play the album it's inevitable that both of these tracks will stay stuck in my head for hours.

First one is Don't Go - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NeZli_rONE

Second one is Can You Imagine, but sadly there is no YouTube posting for it.

As for their more widely known material, There's just about nothing from them I don't like. But, if I had to break it down to a short list of essentials, I would say the following:

Harold Land
No Opportunity Needed, No Experience Necessary
America
Starship Trooper
I've Seen All Good People
South Side of the Sky
Long Distance Runaround
Roundabout
Gates of Delerium
Awaken
Future Times/Rejoice
On the Silent Wings of Freedom
Tempus Fugit
Does it Really Happen?
Cinema/Leave It
Hearts
Shoot High, Aim Low
I'm Running
Endless Dream

Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 01:05 PM by MissMillie
I love Awaken

but I also LOVE the entire Close to the Edge cd.

Heart of the Sunrise
Turn of the Century
Time and a Word
Gates of Delirium
Soundchaser
South Side of the Sky
To Be Over
Going for the One

I spend quite a bit of time over at the Yesfans.com website (and yes, they have a political forum).

I was pretty bummed when the tour was canceled earlier this year. Turns out they're going to tour w/o both Wakeman and Anderson (Wakeman is sending his son in his place). I have tix for Nov 7th.

26. Owner of a Lonely Heart
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vV_L7OQtU0

Move yourself
You always live your life
Never thinking of the future
Prove yourself
You are the move you make
Take your chances win or loser

See yourself
You are the steps you take
You and you - and thats the only way

Shake - shake yourself
Youre every move you make
So the story goes

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than - a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart

Say - you dont want to chance it
Youve been hurt so before

Watch it now
The eagle in the sky
How he dancin one and only
You - lose yourself
No not for pitys sake
Theres no real reason to be lonely
Be yourself
Give your free will a chance
Youve got to want to succeed

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than - a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart

After my own decision
They confused me so - owner of a lonely heart
My love said never question your will at all
In the end youve got to go
Look before you leap - owner of a lonely heart
And dont you hesitate at all - no no

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than - a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart
(repeat)

Owner of a lonely heart

Sooner or later each conclusion
Will decide the lonely heart - owner of a lonely heart
It will excite it will delight
It will give a better start - owner of a lonely heart

Dont deceive your free will at all
Dont deceive your free will at all - owner of a lonely heart
Dont deceive your free will at all
Just receive it

Sentimental reasons, but still a great song.

Great band, too, highly underrated when discussions of the all-time greats take place.
