Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 07:59 PM by JanMichael
All 650 miles from Sarasota to Charlotte are completed. Of course I-4 was a bitch last night, TWO-TWO hour-backups. Which wouldn't be so bad but I was towing a trailer behind THE BEST FREAKIN' TRUCK IN THE WORLD my 94'Nissan XE Pickup with 130,000 miles. That was tedious but OK I suppose. It was a flawless trip even with the bizarre BLIZZARD that slammed NC yesterday. Holy crap, snow EVERYWHERE!

Now I get to drink sweet-tea and actually live with my lovely wife:-)

Sadly though I leave some of the best people, in the world, at work (Shakeydave!) as well as Guy James (DU's Beachbuckeye) and the adorable KG...I'll definately visit sometime next winter (Bwahahahaha).

Tomorrow we invade the TRIAD (not Triangle...Who knew?) area...

16. My bad. I though the whole area was called the "Triangle".
Glad I got caught saying that here and not at the new job! I fixed it though.

Triad it is.

Are you in the "Triangle" area?

18. It's all good
I lived here a couple of months before I even knew there was such thing as a triange, triad, etc. :D

You guys are only about an hour from where we are; as soon as the weather gets nice you have a standing invitation to come out to our place for one of our famous bonfires. (Which reminds me, we need to organize some sort of spring fling for the NC DUers...)

Fire...FIRE!!! :nuke:

:D

Been there many, many times - still haven't seen any sign of the Big Guy. Maybe he, like, walks in bear tracks so no one can follow his trail?

(Got yourself a good guy, there, btw. Congratulations!)

39. Has to do with "naval stores"
Historically pine pitch was used to make tar, and NC has always been a tremendous source of pine trees. In fact, the pine tree is the state tree. (The state flower is the dogwood blossom.)

40. "tarheel" explained!
What is a Tar Heel?

From http://www.unc.edu/about/traditions.html#tarheel
The University not only uses the nickname "Tar Heels," but the entire state does as well. One version of the nickname's origin has the name first being applied to North Carolinians during the Civil War. One record talks of a battle in Virginia, where their supporting column retreated, but North Carolina troops fought alone. The victorious troops were asked in a condescending tone by some Virginians, who had retreated, "Any more tar down in the Old North State, boys?" The response came quickly: "No, not a bit; old Jeff's bought it all up." The Virginians asked: "Is that so? What is he going to do with it?" The reply: "He is going to put it on you'ns heels to make you stick better in the next fight."
